It was just two weeks ago we gathered in jubilee to celebrate the arrival of the Union soldiers in Galveston, Texas. On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, and enslaved people were finally informed slavery had ended.

Since 2020, The Hunt For Foundation, in partnership with community leaders have proudly hosted our annual Juneteenth Festival, celebrating freedom, resilience, culture, history and our future. It truly takes a community to plan, organize, execute and finance this annual celebration. Each year we have intentionally hosted the celebration on June 19th regardless of what day it falls on. This is about honoring our history.

Each year our hearts are filled with gratitude, not only for our community, but also for our remarkable sponsors. Your passion, generosity, and belief in our mission makes this celebration possible.

Happy Juneteenth
❤️💛🖤💚

It’s finally here❣️Juneteenth has arrived, and it’s time to celebrate!

Today is more than a cookout, block party, or field day. It is a day of purpose. Today we remember those who suffered under chattel slavery. We honor those who fought for collective freedom, and continue to commit to the end of racism and white supremacy. It is a day to reflect on American history and honor the resilience, strength, and contributions of African Americans. It is a day to hold in tension the progress that has been made along with the grave inequities that still exist in our society.

While the Emancipation Proclamation was officially announced on January 1, 1863, it wasn't until June 19, 1865 that Union soldiers landed in Galveston, Texas, under the leadership of Major General Gordon Granger, to deliver the news that the Civil War had ended, and that slaves were now free.

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the emancipation of slavery. While Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, generations have celebrated for many years before!

Today we celebrate a brighter future through community, education, unity, love, and understanding.

Happy Juneteenth

The countdown is on⏳🎉

The Hunt For Foundation’s Juneteenth Committee has curated an unforgettable, family-friendly experience filled with culture, community, education, and FUN for everyone!

We’ve expanded our Kids Corner (ages 5 and under) and added even more yard games and activities for the entire family to enjoy.

We’re also excited for the additional art activities provided by First Presbyterian Church of Lincoln, Illinois and Lincoln Arts Institute giving our Juneteenth Festival of Lincoln, IL attendees even more opportunities to create and express themselves.

And of course, our popular History Walk is returning! Take your time engaging in the journey through Black history, achievement, resilience, and freedom. ✊🏾

We are calling for you to bring your family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and classmates. This celebration is for us all! The abolition of slavery is a reason to celebrate, and we’re coming together to honor our freedom, culture, and community.

🎓💦 DUNK FOR DEGREES! 💦🎓

This year, we’re excited to spotlight three outstanding graduates who have been selected to participate in our Dunk for Degrees Scholarship Fundraiser during the Juneteenth Festival!

These young leaders have been involved in Hunt For Foundation programming throughout the years and continue to demonstrate tremendous promise for the future. Through their positive mindsets, ambition, perseverance, and educational goals, they represent the very best of our community’s next generation.

Now it’s our turn to show up for them.

We invite everyone to come out, have fun, and support these deserving graduates as they prepare for their next chapter. For just $5, you’ll get 2 chances to dunk a graduate while helping raise funds for the HFF Scholarship Fund.

Our youth are worth investing in, and together we can help them continue their educational journeys.

Join us June 19 at Juneteenth Festival of Lincoln, IL and make a splash for a great cause! 🎓💧
