IS THERE A CALF IN MY HOME
"Now when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain,
the people assembled about Aaron and said to him, 'Come, make us a god who
will go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.' Aaron said to them, 'Tear off the gold rings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.' Then all the people tore off the gold rings which were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. He took this from their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool and made it into a molten calf; and they said, 'This is your god, O Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.'"
Exodus 32:1-4
In this passage, we see Aaron being passive and giving in to the desires of the crowd. The people were angry and pressing in on him, and he didn't stand up for God's way. Instead, he made a golden calf to appease them. As men, God has put us in charge of our families, and we need to uphold God's way. Our children and spouses may become tumultuous with us, but we are called to maintain God's standard, not society's. As Christian men, we cannot afford to be passive. We need to be strong and courageous, standing up for what is right even when it's hard. We need to lead our families in the ways of the Lord, even when they don't understand or agree with us. We can't let the pressures of society or the anger of others sway us from God's path.
Aaron's passivity led to the Israelites' downfall, and the same can happen to us if we're not careful. We must be vigilant against the temptations of this world and the pressures to conform to societal standards. We need to seek God's guidance and strength to do what is right, even when it's difficult. Let us pray that God will give us the courage and strength to be the men He has called us to be, to lead our families in His ways, and to stand firm in our faith even in the face of opposition. May we never be passive but always be active in pursuing God and His will for our lives.
