No child should be hungry. That’s why we feed kids on the weekends in Lincoln, Nebraska.

10/05/2026

One in five kids in Nebraska go to bed wondering if there will be breakfast tomorrow.

That is the reality we are working to change, one weekend meal bag and one stocked pantry shelf at a time.

Last year alone we served over 15,750 meals to Lincoln’s youth, and every single one of them started with a photo just like this one.

In three and a half weeks, our biggest fundraiser yet is going to help us do even more. Are you going to be there?

Our 10th Anniversary Fundraiser on October 29th is just around the corner and we are busy pulling together an amazing silent auction for the evening.

Do you have something to donate?

We are looking for experiences, gift cards, services, products, getaways, restaurant certificates, and anything else you think our guests would love to bid on.

Every auction item donated helps us raise the funds we need to keep serving free meals to kids in Lincoln every single weekend.

If your business or organization would like to donate an auction item we would love to hear from you.

This is what Hunger Action Month is all about. Not just raising awareness but doing something about it.

Last year We Can Do This served over 15,750 free meals to children in Lincoln, and this year we have already seen a 41% increase in meals served across every single one of our locations.

More families are finding us, more kids are walking through our doors, and that means more need than ever before. We are not slowing down.

But we need your help to keep going. Donate, volunteer, or host a food drive this September and help us make sure every child in Lincoln has a meal this weekend. Link in bio. 🍓

For many kids in Lincoln, the school cafeteria is their most reliable source of food during the week.

But when Friday afternoon comes and the school doors close, that safety net disappears for two full days.

That is exactly the gap We Can Do This was created to fill. Since October 2016 we have been showing up every weekend to make sure no child in our community goes hungry on a Saturday or Sunday.

This Hunger Action Month, will you help us keep showing up? Every $5.00 feeds a child. Link in bio. 🍓

And if you can come to our event on October 29th, you can multiply your impact:

This summer We Can Do This served 9,727 meals to children in Lincoln. That is 9,727 times a child sat down to a hot meal, grabbed a bag to take home, or left our pantry with food on the shelf. That is 9,727 moments where a parent did not have to wonder how they were going to feed their child that day.

And we are just getting started.

As we head into fall our need does not slow down. In fact it grows. School starting means the weekend gap is back, and the families who counted on us all summer are still counting on us now. If you have ever wanted to make a real difference in a child’s life, this is your moment. Donate, volunteer, or host a food drive and help us keep these numbers growing.

Every $5.00 feeds a child. Link in bio. 🍓

Board Member Spotlight: Dannielle Kawamoto 🍓

Some people are busy. Dannielle is busy and still finds a way to show up for every single child we serve.

As an Enterprise Client Executive at TransUnion, Dannielle’s life runs on airports and time zones. She has built an impressive career spanning decades in enterprise sales, marketing services, and relationship management at some of the biggest names in her industry. She is the kind of professional who knows how to get things done at the highest level, and she brings every bit of that energy to We Can Do This.

Whether it is communications, marketing, events, or fundraising, when we ask Dannielle for help she does not just say yes. She finds a way to make it happen and makes it look effortless. In the middle of a packed travel schedule and a life full of people who count on her, she carves out real, meaningful time for the kids of Lincoln. That is not something everyone does. That is something special.

Dannielle is the kind of person who shows up for her friends, her family, and her community. We are so grateful that she has chosen We Can Do This as one of the ways she shows up in the world. We could not do this without you, Dannielle. 💙🍓
