After a week away … we were back with an open studio day with delicious snacks from Center friend, Linda.

You all should see how the students respond when we tell them they have the entire day to use whatever art mediums they want to get creative.

It’s. All. Free.

The Center is a FREE after school opportunity on Tuesdays for students in grades 6-8. We provide FREE snacks, art supplies, and space for students to explore their inner and outer worlds!

Another week in the books! And another day of learning about our community's...weather?!

That's right, Mike Albano from the National Weather Service joined us this afternoon, teaching us about what happens at the weather center. As usual, our students asked creative questions, and Mike did a great job listening to the many weather-related stories!

After snacking on treats from our friend Kendall, we went upstairs, had open studio time, played pool, and spent time together in our favorite space.

We are off next week -- HAVE A GREAT SPRING BREAK!

Remember, The Center for Creativity & Community is an after-school opportunity for students in grades 6 through 8. IT'S FREE!
We provide mentors, snacks, arts, leisure time, and a community for students to explore their creativity.

Another week done! And another week learning about a local agency doing good work in our community.

Today, Norm Newhouse from the Lincoln Logan Food Pantry came and shared with our students about the good work the food pantry is doing in our community.

We then learned a little bit about food insecurity and created art we hope will become a larger piece to be installed at the Lincoln Logan Food Pantry.

The best part? Students wanted to know what they could do to help them and asked how they might get involved!

Creativity. Community. Collaboration. Where else will your students learn about how they can make a difference through art and service?

See you next week for our free after-school program, where students receive mentorship, explore creativity and community, and enjoy free snacks!

Week 4 ✅

And what a blast we had yesterday. We welcomed our good friends from Logan County Pride to The Center, and they shared the history of their organization and the work they do in Logan County.

Then we ate delicious cupcakes provided by our friend Brenda and concluded our day working on creating a giant puzzle.

We celebrated diversity and the creativity that flows from it to form the beloved community!

See yall next week for more creativity and community!!!

Week 3 done!

And today was a special day at The Center for Creativity & Community. [A bit of a long post, but we appreciate you reading!]

Our topic today was Black History Month, inspired by the work of Black artist Charles McGee. Over seven decades, McGee's art reflected ‘the energy of life’: interdependence, equality, and connection among all living things. His life and art aimed to promote peace, balance, and harmony, exploring various styles with curiosity to make the world better.

All of which we hope to instill in our students at The Center.
Our afternoon concluded with a cherished guest, Jennifer Hunt from The Hunt for Foundation. She delivered a presentation on Black History Month, covering its origins and featuring influential Black figures such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the late Rev. Jesse Jackson. The insightful and inspiring discussion was inspired by Dr. King's quote: "Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”

One of the unique aspects of The Center is our emphasis on empowering our student to engage their creativity to make their communities braver for everyone. Today, we did that by learning how Black History is U.S. history, and that we all can make a difference!

We will see you next Tuesday!

* Remember, The Center for Creativity & Community offers a FREE after-school program for students in grades 6-8. We provide homework assistance, mentorship, and a space for creative exploration in a community that values curiosity and inclusion.

Week 2 ✅

We worked with words! Crafting creative stories and whimsical lines of wisdom known as poetry.

With old books, our students created “blackout poetry.” Look it up and try some yourself!!

We are grateful that our friend Cherie provided us with a delicious snack!

See you next Tuesday at The Center!
