The Christy Lynn Mitchell Foundation is proud to announce this year’s scholarship recipients:

Hunter Tomlinson -Twelve Bridges High School - Accepted into the Nursing program at Sonoma State University

Joanna Al Hijaj - Western Sierra Collegiate Academy - Accepted into the Political Science program at University of California at Berkeley

Adelyne Olvera - Western Sierra Collegiate Academy – Wants to study Public Health -Accepted to Fordham, Baylor and Cal Poly SLO

Ireland Lewis - Northgate High School - Wants to study Elementary School Education - Accepted to SF State, Oregon State and Saint Mary’s

Joy Deniston - Northgate High School - Wants to study computer science- Accepted to UC Davis, Santa Clara and Northeastern

The scholarships given out at Northgate High School this year were in honor of Kim Zitter Nun, our co-board member and dear friend who passed away in January. It just wasn’t the same being at Northgate without you Kim, you are greatly missed.

This year we also started a new partnership with Lisa Kalasardo and her organization, “Live Love for Good” to facilitate a scholarship for:

Fiore Bin - Heritage High School - Wants to study Cognitive Science - Applied to Stanford, UMass and UC Berkeley

This, our fifth year, has been just as rewarding as the first, Christy’s spirit continues as we are helping good kids do good things that will shape a kinder and more compassionate future.

Yesterday, our friend and co-board member Kim Zitter Nunn unexpectedly passed away. Kim and Christy were high school friends that had lost touch, as so many of us have experienced. Then in 2016, at a cross country event our children were running in, they ran into each other, and the friendship was rekindled. I didn’t meet Kim until Christy’s memorial when she showed up with equipment to stream the service to friends whom couldn’t make it. Then she kept showing up to all our events were I got to know her a bit. Eventually I asked her to join the foundation. She was a perfect fit with her background in nonprofit’s and her kind heart. She quickly became my friend, and now I can’t believe I have to say goodbye 😢 This photo was taken last year at the Northgate High School Senor Awards Night. Kim had just given a speech and awards to our recipient students. After the ceremony we snuck into the school and she toured us around all the places she and Christy hung out back in the mid eighties, until a staff member found us wandering the halls and asked us to leave.🙂 This years Northgate scholarship awards will be given out in memory and in honor of Kim. Please join me in sending a prayer of strength to her family, especially her children, Rachel & Colby.

Another graduation season is in the books and we are beyond happy with our 2025 Scholarship recipients. When we started this foundation I never expected for it to become such a source of hope for our future. In the era of cruelty as policy, these kids provide a glimpse into a kinder, more tolerant future. Thanks to everyone who supported us this last year.

As I went to write our year in review post, I realized we never posted anything following our 2024 fundraiser. This years Costume BINGO Fundraiser was our most successful fundraiser to date, and I must say it was a lot of fun. The success of our event and the support of everyone who donated this year will allow us to continue our scholarship programs in four high schools next year. Kindness is an action that must be practiced. With your support and participation, together we have created a momentum of kindness that can not be stopped. Thank you!!!

Awards season is now complete!!! This year we gave away scholarships in four high schools. Western Sierra HS, Northgate HS, Twelve Bridges HS and once again we were proud to partner with www.LiveLikeSoy.org for scholarships at Lincoln High School. We would like to thank everyone who supported our foundation in 2023. We had quite an event filled and successful year (and had a little fun along the way). We held 4 fundraising events and gave away 6 student scholarships. We think Christy🌻would be proud.
