We love seeing Silver Wishes volunteers celebrated for the difference they’re making in our community!

Linda Fazo and Pam Nelson were recently featured in the blog Celebrating Senior Women, sharing why they chose to volunteer with Silver Wishes and what it means to them to help make wishes come true.

But what we love most about this story is what happened next.

After learning about Silver Wishes from Linda and Pam, the writer nominated a friend—and later got to see her friend’s happy smile when her wish came true.

That is The Dandelion Effect.

One person shares. Another person is inspired. A senior receives a wish. And that kindness continues to spread.

No senior should have to choose between staying cool during the summer and repairing a leaking roof.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Mother Lode Foundation in Auburn and donated labor from Quality Sheet Metal Heating & Air, Inc., Kathryn didn’t have to make that choice. Her roof is repaired, her bedroom will stay dry when the rain comes, and she was able to stay cool and comfortable all summer.

For the past two years, Janet hasn’t had running water at her kitchen sink or to her dishwasher. Unable to afford a plumber, she adapted the best way she could, by washing her dishes in the bathtub every single day.

Janet told us she isn’t one to ask for help. She had simply accepted that this was how life was going to be.

But today, that changed.

Thanks to the huge hearts at RightWay Plumbing Sewer & Drain, who generously discounted their services, and the support of our incredible Silver Wishes donors, Janet turned on her kitchen faucet today and had RUNNING WATER!

Something many of us use every day without a second thought is going to make Janet’s daily life so much easier. And she still can’t quite believe it!

Thank you, Right Way Plumbing, and thank you to our donors. Together, you made more than a plumbing repair possible—you made Janet’s life a little easier and reminded her that she is seen, valued and not forgotten.

We’re still smiling after an incredible National Senior Citizen Day! Thanks to our amazing volunteers and community partners, 200 beautiful bouquets were assembled and delivered to seniors in Roseville, Lincoln and Citrus Heights — a simple reminder that they are seen, valued and not forgotten.

And this message we received afterward says it all:
"I would like to thank Silver Wishes for the three lovely ladies that came to our home on Friday. My wife and I are extremely grateful for such a thoughtful experience. The beautiful flowers and gestures definitely raised our spirits."

Sometimes a bouquet of flowers, a friendly face at the door, and knowing someone is thinking of you can brighten more than just a day.

Thank you to every volunteer, flower donor and community partner who helped us spread a little joy. You made this day possible.

Sometimes a wish is about more than replacing a door. It’s about feeling safe and secure in your own home.

For the past couple of years, Mariann’s back door hadn’t fit properly in the frame, and the lock didn’t line up—leaving her unable to securely lock her door.

Thanks to the help of Lutz Good Day Homes, Mariann now has a beautiful new wooden back door that closes and locks properly, giving her something that means so much: peace of mind.

But the Dandelion Effect didn’t stop there. Mariann was so touched by having her wish come true that she has now signed up to become a Silver Wishes volunteer and help spread that kindness to another senior.

One wish. One safer home. And one new volunteer ready to pay it forward.

Mori almost didn’t recognize his own car when his wish came true this past week!

After years of several self-painted layers, Mori wished for something simple, a fresh start and a car he could take pride in again. And what better color for a fresh start than white? 🤍

The smile on Mori’s face when he saw his newly painted car said it all.

A huge thank you to Maaco of Roseville for partnering with Silver Wishes on another special wish and, once again, providing such wonderful care and customer service.

Because sometimes a fresh coat of paint is about more than a car, it’s about restoring a little pride and joy.

Sometimes a wish is simply about feeling safe in your own home.

Donna's front stairs were worn and unstable, and the railings on her porch were so wobbly that she no longer felt safe relying on them. With knee surgery coming up this month, having sturdy stairs and secure handrails became even more important.

When we arrived at Donna's home with flowers to reveal her wish, she thought the flowers were our way of gently telling her that her wish wasn't going to be granted.

Imagine her surprise when we told her the real news—her wish was coming true!

Thanks to help from Duarte Home Improvements, Donna now has a new set of sturdy front stairs and secure railings to help her safely get in and out of her home, especially as she recovers from surgery.

This is what a wish can look like. It's not always something big or extravagant. Sometimes it's removing an obstacle, restoring independence, and giving a senior peace of mind in the place they call home.
