More footage from my visit to the Intrepid Academy at Hale, one of the incredible organizations we are hiking to raise money for this year! The academy is led by teachers of color and is for students of color from cities in the Greater Boston area who want to experience outdoor education.

We started our day with an intro mountain biking route through Hale’s beautiful property. kept us all on track!

Such a wonderful day with Erica Pernell and 💗

More about this group:

The Intrepid Academy at Hale (IAH) creates opportunities for BIPOC students from cities in the Greater Boston area to experience liberatory outdoor learning, using Hale Education’s 1100 acres of forested woodlands in Westwood, MA. The organization gives BIPOC high school students access to high-quality outdoor, experiential, and wellness-focused education, providing technical outdoor gear, ample food and snacks, transportation, and a culturally responsive and affirming curriculum and pedagogy.

Currently, IAH’s school partners can only cover 50% of the cost of a long-term learning experience. Funds raised through the hike-a-thon will help cover the remaining 50%. In this way, the fundraiser will help to directly dismantle the primary barriers—transportation, food security, and gear—that prevent BIPOC students from accessing experiential education outdoors.

A wide-access main compartment handles the heavy lifting, while thoughtfully placed pockets help keep everything organized when it matters most.

A practical and versatile piece for winter days in the mountains.

This week, I (Serena) had the great honor of visiting ANOTHER one of the organizations we are hiking for this season: the Intrepid Academy at Hale! Here we are doing a fire-building challenge—-everyone had six minutes to gather tinder and fuel from the woods, seven minutes to build their fire, and then one match to light it. Every student managed to get their fire going!

Great day with Erica Pernell and Amy 💗

Join us on June 6th at The Notch Hostel for a special hike-a-thon celebration! 🎉 Spend the weekend connecting with fellow participants, volunteers, and board members, and take your chance on our raffle featuring some seriously incredible prizes — all in support of our 2026 partners and the Intrepid Academy at Hale.

Come just for Saturday evening’s celebration, or stay overnight and settle into the Summits in Solidarity community for the full experience. We’ll have a group potluck dinner and coffee the next morning.

During the daylight hours, join us in Crawford Notch for multiple group hikes as we reach for our 606-mile goal. (Sign ups and details for both can be found at the link in our bio.)

Khmer Maine will be sharing a special performance at both Saturday events. Three traditional Cambodian dances will showcase the essence of their community spirit as well as sharing history and rituals.

This annual gathering is always such a meaningful way to come together, celebrate the season, and support the mission. We’d love to have you with us.

Meet Reggie’s mom Malia!
