We work on behalf of the towing companies throughout the state to advance positive legislation, prevent negative legislation, promote training opportunities and provide an understanding of our industry to the public and governmental bodies.

As many of you know, the towing and recovery industry in Missouri continues to face increasing scrutiny regarding billing practices, standard operating procedures, and industry expectations. We currently have multiple cases moving their way through the court system where towing and recovery operations, rates, and procedures are expected to become a significant topic of discussion.

The encouraging part of this is that expert witnesses are potentially going to be testifying on behalf of the towing industry. This gives us an important opportunity to help establish and defend reasonable standards for towing and recovery rates, procedures, and SOPs across the State of Missouri.

To effectively support these efforts, we need real-world industry data from Missouri operators.
ATTENTION medium/heavy operators!

We are asking MTTA members who have a standard rate sheet to please email a copy to the Association for review and comparison purposes. This information may assist in demonstrating what is customary and standard within our industry throughout Missouri.

IMPORTANT:

- Please redact any company-specific information that you do not want disclosed or potentially referenced in court proceedings.
- You may remove company names, addresses, logos, customer information, or any proprietary details before submission.
- We are primarily seeking rate structures, billing formats, operational charges, and general SOP consistency.

The more participation we receive from members across the state, the stronger and more defensible our position becomes when establishing what constitutes reasonable and customary towing and recovery practices in Missouri.

Please send submissions to the Association at your earliest convenience.

Thank you for your continued support of the industry and the Association.

The Missouri Tow Truck Association is currently working with a Missouri Division of Fire Safety contractor, the Missouri Department of Agriculture, and other state agencies to help develop a comprehensive statewide resource list of towing and recovery assets available throughout Missouri.

One of the primary goals of this project is to identify specialized recovery equipment and operators that may be available for future training opportunities, coordinated emergency response efforts, and major incident mitigation throughout the state.

The Missouri Division of Fire Safety has specifically requested information regarding companies that operate rotators and other specialized heavy recovery equipment that may be utilized during hands-on training scenarios and emergency response exercises.

Additionally, the Missouri Department of Agriculture has requested information regarding heavy-duty towing and recovery companies that are capable of assisting with livestock rollover incidents and agricultural emergency response situations. As many of you know, these incidents require specialized equipment, coordination, and experience to safely mitigate while protecting public safety, animal welfare, and traffic flow.

To assist with these efforts, MTTA has developed the attached questionnaire to help identify:

Rotators

Heavy wreckers

Air cushion recovery systems

Major Incident Response Units

Traffic management resources

Environmental remediation capabilities

Livestock rollover response capabilities

Agricultural support resources

Additional specialized equipment and personnel available throughout Missouri

Our intent is to compile this information into a statewide resource database and mapping system that can be shared with:

Missouri Department of Agriculture

Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT)

Missouri State Highway Patrol

Missouri Division of Fire Safety

Local emergency management agencies

Other requesting state and local response partners

The long-term goal is to improve statewide coordination, strengthen Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) integration, reduce roadway closure times, improve emergency response capabilities, and ensure that agencies throughout Missouri have access to accurate information regarding available recovery assets and qualified operators.

This project is also intended to help highlight the professionalism and capabilities of Missouri’s towing and recovery industry and demonstrate the critical role our industry plays in emergency response, public safety, traffic management, and disaster mitigation.

Please complete the questionnaire as thoroughly as possible and return it at your earliest convenience by emailing it to [email protected]

If you have any questions, suggestions, or additional capabilities you feel should be included, please let us know.

Thank you all for your continued support of the towing and recovery industry across Missouri.

BIG WIN FOR TOW OPERATORS

Today, a Jackson County jury confirmed what we’ve said all along:
👉 You MUST be the legal owner (or lienholder) to pick up a vehicle.
After just 2 hours of deliberation, the jury found Allen T. Bloodworth II and Private Party Impound did nothing wrong by refusing to release a vehicle to someone who wasn’t the owner.

This matters for every tow company:

No more guessing
No more pressure to “make exceptions”
Follow the law — and you’re protected

This isn’t just a win for us.
It’s clarity for the entire industry.

This is a reminder that our next Missouri Tow Truck Association meeting will be held today at 6:30 p.m. meeting starts at 7:00 pm at Smokehouse Barbecue.

Our planned speaker Brian Sanders with the MSHP had to move his appearance to the June Meeting.

This past month, several of us traveled to Jefferson City to testify before the House Transportation Committee. While our bill did not advance, it was eye-opening to hear insurance company representatives argue that there is no need for additional coverage because commercial accidents already have sufficient liability coverage for major incidents. Quite frankly, hearing that argument was comical—especially considering how often those same claims are denied when we submit them.

On a positive note, our Facebook engagement has been strong this month. Please continue to like and share our posts to help expand our reach and strengthen our voice across Missouri.

We also want to support one of our own. As many of you know, a Max Towing driver was shot by a customer last week. We will be collecting donations at the meeting and plan to present him and his family with a check. If you’re able, please bring a donation—cash or check is appreciated.

Finally, be sure to mark your calendar for our annual golf tournament on September 23rd. We are currently seeking sponsors for:

Hole sponsorships
Cart sponsorships
Drink sponsorships
If you’re interested in sponsoring or know someone who might be, please reach out.

We appreciate your continued involvement and support. Looking forward to seeing everyone next Tuesday.

We want to make you aware of a serious incident involving one of our own, Matthew Solberg, a driver for Maxx Towing out of Kansas City Missouri.

Matthew was dispatched on a night call around 1:30 AM for a wrecked Dodge Charger. Upon arrival, he found the driver intoxicated and the vehicle crashed. After loading the vehicle to clear the highway, the customer became argumentative, turned physical, and ultimately shot Matthew—striking him in the abdomen—and assaulted him further while he was on the ground.

This is the reality of what our operators face.

The Missouri Tow Truck Association is asking for support to help Matthew during this time. When one of us is down, we step up.

If you are willing to help, donations can be made:

In person at a meeting
By mailing a check to Missouri Tow Truck Association, P.O. Box 1221, Liberty, Missouri 64069
Any support is appreciated.

Thank you for standing behind our industry.

A heated fight is brewing in Missouri as truckers warn that a towing bill could mean higher costs, more risk and fewer small operators.
