Just looking at those stone walls gives you a little chill. Not in a gimmicky haunted-house way either, but in the real, heavy sense that a lot of history sat behind those bars.
This old prison is one of those Missouri landmarks that feels severe the second you see it, all brick, iron, and stories you can almost feel hanging in the air. People come for the tours, the history, and yes, the ghost lore, but what sticks with me is how little the place tries to soften what it was.
I honestly think it says something important about this state that we preserve sites like this instead of pretending the hard chapters never happened. It is eerie, fascinating, and impossible to forget.
Even from the outside, it feels like the building is still holding onto secrets. 🔗👇🏻
