Too often, we treat missions as a heavy burden—a list of duties to fulfill rather than a joy to experience.

Lesslie Newbigin captured the true heart of this work when he wrote:

"There has been a long tradition which sees the mission of the Church primarily as obedience to a command... It tends to make mission a burden rather than a joy, to make it part of the law rather than part of the gospel. If one looks at the New Testament evidence... Mission begins with a kind of explosion of joy."

When we plant churches in the bush, make sure those churches are strong, and train and equip local leaders, it isn't out of grim obligation. It comes from the sheer joy of seeing real change happen.

What we do brings immense joy—and that is what drives EveryBody's Hope forward every day.

Big week for our team—the maize crop on the farm is finally heading to market!

The proceeds from this harvest are going to play a huge role as we lay out our plans and set the budget for next year.

While the farm helps us move toward sustainability, it only covers a part of what we do. We still rely heavily on partners standing with us financially to make our frontline work a success in the year ahead.

The road to reaching remote communities isn’t always paved, but every mile is worth it. 🚗💨

On the highway toward our next church plant, we stopped by this little church, Kabamba Baptist Church. These two faithful church members were waiting for us.

They were waiting because we were carrying and delivering precious cargo - Bibles.

Whether we’re transporting Bibles, hauling equipment, or making unplanned stops along the way, so much of frontline work happens as we go.

Ministry isn't just about the final destination—it’s about the journey. It's about being available for every conversation, connection, and opportunity God places in our path along the way.

First Sunday morning worship at Kundalila Baptist Church—our new church plant right out here in the bush.

It was a cold, clear morning, but that didn't keep people away. Everyone gathered together under the trees, bundled up, and ready to hear the Word.

I had the privilege of preaching while Pastor Sydney Mukosha translated.

Starting a church from scratch in these remote areas takes time, prayer, and partnership, but seeing a local body of believers gather like this makes every effort worth it.

The story of James Calvert is a story of total obedience. Following a calling often means being sent to places you’ve never seen and to people you’ve never met—and choosing to go anyway.

Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, we press on.

When I started EveryBody’s Hope, one non-negotiable was that our work would be done deep in the bush. Not because it was easy, but because that’s where the need and the conviction pointed. I’d never been there. I’d never met anyone from there.

But we pressed on—and as Robert Frost wrote, "that has made all the difference."

Before we built our Ministry Center, there was just raw farmland and a vision to create a permanent center for pastoral training, conferences, and marriage retreats. No high-priced Western architecture firms or imported crews—just local Zambian leadership pulling measurements to ensure every square foot was planned with precision. Stewardship isn't just how you spend the money; it’s how carefully you measure the foundation before you lay the first brick. 🧱

Sometimes getting to the village is half the battle!

This is Pastor Sydney Mukosha, one of our four staff pastors in Zambia. We call them the Big 4.

Sydney was headed out to survey a village to see if it might be a good place to plant a church when his motorcycle broke down along the Great North Road.

So what do you do?

You find somebody who can fix it, pull over on the side of the road, take the motorcycle apart and get back on your way!

When I saw this picture, my first thought was, “Oh no. Poor guy!” 😂

But this is ministry in the bush. Sometimes before you can get to the people, you've just got to get the motorcycle running again.

Meet Pastor Elijah Mupeta.

Elijah pastors Nambo Baptist Church, one of the churches planted through EveryBody's Hope.

He told us that before beginning his studies in our pastors' training program, he was content to sit under other church leaders.

But something changed.

Through his training, Elijah became motivated to preach the Gospel himself—not only in his church, but throughout his village and the surrounding villages.

And he's doing it.

Elijah was asked to preach at a funeral in his village. About 75 people were there. He clearly presented the Gospel, and 25 people came to faith in Christ.

His people are eager to hear what he has to say, and Nambo Baptist Church is growing.

And now the church has established a preaching point in another village—a place we believe will soon become another church.

This is why we train pastors.

We're not simply giving men information. We're equipping them to take the Gospel to their own people—and then beyond their own village.
