Want to know how you build a church in the African bush?

You start with clay and water.

The clay they need is right there in the ground. The man you see digging is digging up that clay. They mix it with water and form the bricks by hand.

In this video, the men are making the bricks while the women carry them to an area where they'll be left to dry.

No brick factory. No delivery truck. The materials are right there, and so is the labor.

Add water, make the bricks, let them dry—and eventually those clay bricks become the walls of a church.

I've watched this process many times, and I'm still impressed by it.

This is how you build a church in the bush.

Only in Zambia!

We were finishing up a conference in a village near Chongwe, and these four were headed home from the conference.

Four people. One motorcycle. And don't miss the luggage!

I remember watching them get ready to leave and thinking, “Now that's ingenious.”

I'm also pretty sure this would never fly in the U.S. 😂

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

“How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?” Romans 10:13–15

About 1,000 people gathered here for four days. They camped out, worshiped together, heard the Gospel preached and were taught from God's Word.

These verses have helped shape the vision of EveryBody's Hope.

People cannot believe a Gospel they have never heard. Somebody has to go.

That's why we go.

Strong marriages make strong churches.

Before a pastor stands to preach...

Before a church begins to grow...

Before lives are changed...

There is often something much quieter taking place - at home.

A husband and wife opening God's Word together.

They learning together.

They growing together.

They serving together.

Healthy churches are built on healthy families, and healthy families are built on God's truth.

This moment was captured during one of our marriage conferences in Zambia.

Just two people investing in the relationship God has given them.

Sometimes the most important ministry happens one conversation at a time.

This harvest is about more than maize.

Meet Pastor Sydney Mukosha, one of our four Zambian pastors.

When we're back in the United States, Pastor Sydney and the rest of our team continue the work God has called EveryBody's Hope to do.

Here he's standing in a field of maize at Calvary Mission Farm in rural Zambia.

The harvest will feed families.

Some of it will be sold.

And those proceeds help start churches and train pastors who will carry the Gospel to villages far past the pavement.

That's why this field matters.

Every bag of maize

Every harvest

Every day's work

Helps us plant churches where there are no churches.

Helps us strengthen these churches.

Helps make it possible for another pastor to be equipped to share the hope of Christ.

Sometimes, ministry looks like a sermon.

Sometimes, it looks like a harvest.

Most people would see an old man carrying three plastic chairs.

We saw a servant.

This gentleman loaded these chairs onto his bicycle and rode them from his home to a discipleship conference at his church. The chairs weren't for him.

They were for the conference leaders.

No one asked him to stand on a stage.

No one handed him a microphone.

He simply found a way to serve.

The Kingdom of God is built by people like this.

People who quietly do what needs to be done.

People who understand that every act of service matters.

Sometimes carrying three chairs is just as important as preaching the sermon.

Faithfulness doesn't always stand behind a pulpit. Sometimes it rides a bicycle.

Some nights, church happens under the stars.

There's no building.

No stage.

No padded chairs.

Just a screen, a projector, and a village gathered together to watch the story of Jesus.

For many in the crowd, this was their first time seeing a video, much less a video of the the life of Christ unfolding before their eyes.

The screen will come down.

The equipment will be packed away.

But we pray the story they witnessed will remain in their hearts long after the lights go out.

Meet the grandmother of one of our pastors.

Today she's bagging maize at Calvary Mission Farm in rural Zambia.

It may not seem remarkable at first glance.

But the maize from this farm is sold to help start churches and train pastors who will take the Gospel to villages far past the pavement.

It's a simple thing.

A grandmother.

Some bags of maize.

An ordinary day's work.

But God often uses ordinary people and ordinary work to accomplish extraordinary things.
