IN LOVING MEMORY
Wayne E. Boyd, Jr., age 78, of Princeton, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville.
Wayne was born February 4, 1948, he was raised on his family farm in Pembroke, Kentucky, where he learned early the value of hard workβbecoming a farmer, horseman and cattleman. Wayne was inducted into the KY Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame in 2013.
His passion for the auction business began when he held his first auction at the Hopkinsville Stockyards. What started there grew into a lifelong career spanning more than 50 years. For 45 years, Wayne was a familiar and respected figure in the horse industry with West Kentucky Horse Sale, working alongside his wife, Diane Boyd. Together they also ran West Kentucky Real Estate & Auction, where he auctioned farms, farm equipment, estates, and countless treasures he took pride in finding and putting into the hands of others.
Wayne also operated a local auction house in Princeton, where he continued doing what he loved-bringing people together, selling beautiful furniture and unique pieces, and, of course, calling the bid. The auction business was more than a career to Wayne; it was a way of life.
A proud Army veteran, Wayne was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.
He is survived by his daughter, Alaina (Kyle) Lancaster of Slaughters, KY; son, Bradley (Rachel) Boyd of Princeton; brother, Lanny Boyd; adored grandchildren, Maddie Boyd, Mason Boyd, Claire Lancaster, Evelyn Lancaster and Reid Lancaster; his companion, Gail Mitchell, who shared five years by his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne E. Boyd, Sr. and Katie Gilkey Boyd; wife, Diane Boyd
A memorial visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Morgan's Funeral Home.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Merle M. Mahr Cancer Center, 900 Hospital Drive, Madisonville, KY 42431.
