Well! 😡 The two dead trees… perfect. Well… the roof has branches but looks okay 🤞. Windows are okay with branches resting on them. The maple has several sections that will require a big ladder and a professional. The back tree lost the top, which is now lodged in the upper parts of two other trees. One big soft maple branch landed on my prized and well established Rose of Sharon patch😥

Tomorrow … SATURDAY Step Back in Time Tomorrow at Shoal Creek!

Friends:
Tomorrow is our first official summer opening for the 2026 season!

After a full afternoon spent cleaning the whole village…

i was cleaning and prepping the Hughes Cooking Cabin and the Hughes Textile Cabin, we are ready to welcome you back to the 1880s.

I will be at the hearth tomorrow cooking up a traditional Virginia New Brunswick Stew (using chicken—no rabbits or squirrels in this batch! 🤣🤣) alongside a delicious Blueberry Cake made with fresh Smirhville farm blueberries.

The village will operate rain or shine, and would love to see you there.

Event Details: Stories Behind the Doors 1880’s
When: Saturday, June 13th, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (An additional date will be held June 27th)

Admission: $8.00 (Children 2 and under are free)

This event also is a unique opportunity to see behind closed doors.

While all structures are open for viewing, visitors can go inside the 8 main town buildings exclusively during our scheduled guided tours.

Tour Schedule: 10:30 AM & 12:30 PM
Meeting Location: Tours begin promptly at the Thornton Mansion.

If you prefer to explore independently, historical reenactors will be stationed across the museum grounds all day to share the history of our buildings.

The Mercantile will also be open for snacks, drinks, and shopping.

This Wednesday, we had our Team Monthly Momentum Meeting! We break down goals, showcase wins from the month, and enjoy each other's company over some yummy food.

Has anyone noticed less birds?
Finally we have 6-8 hummingbirds that visit throughout the day.

One sassy robin in the curve of the downspout.

The wren house remains empty for the first time in years.

No blue jays🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
