Hope House

Hope House At Hope House, we offer donors and advocates the opportunity to provide profoundly disabled individuals with the lifelong gift of a safe, loving, and family-centered home. Our mission is to ensure they receive the proper care, treatment, and supervision they need to thrive—creating a forever home where they are cherished and supported for life.

Most of the children who came here in 1966 are still living here today as Seniors. We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.

31 years. ❤️

Today we’re celebrating an incredible milestone: Consuelo has been caring for the residents of Hope House for 31 years.

When we talk about Hope House sustaining a mission for 60 years and providing a forever home and forever family for people with profound disabilities, this is what that actually looks like.

It looks like people like Consuelo.

People who don’t just come to work, but devote their life’s work to caring for others. People who show up year after year, learn every personality, celebrate every joy, walk through every hard season, and become part of the family.

31 years of showing up.
31 years of caring.
31 years of loving some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

A 60-year mission is only possible because people like Consuelo have carried it forward.

Help us celebrate this living saint today. Drop a comment and congratulate Consuelo on an extraordinary 31 years at Hope House! ❤️

📺 Hope House is coming to Austin PBS!

Important Note, the show will have other topics first. Hope House will most likely be at the end of the show.

Tomorrow night, Austin PBS KLRU’s InSight will share the 60-year story of Hope House with our community.

You’ll see some familiar faces, hear the story of our founder, Rose, and discover how a simple commitment made six decades ago continues today: creating forever homes and forever families for kids with profound intellectual disabilities.

And you’ll get a glimpse of where that story is headed next as we prepare to build more homes and make room for more kids who need them.

Watch on Austin PBS:
📺 Thursday, August 27 — 7:00 PM and 10:30 PM
📺 Sunday — 9:30 AM
📺 Monday — 4:30 PM
The episode will also be available on the PBS app after it airs.

This is an incredible opportunity for more people in Austin to discover Hope House and the kids who call it home.

Will you help us spread the word?
Share this post and invite someone to watch with you. 💙

🎉 Happy Birthday to everybody’s favorite old man, Rodney! 🎉

Rodney has a way of showing us where the good life really is.

You’ll often find him sitting on the back porch listening to the radio, playing his keyboard, or ready at a moment’s notice for an impromptu dance party. And that smile? It can cure just about anything that’s bothering you.

For more than 50 years, Hope House has been Rodney’s home. That means generations of caregivers have loved him, cared for him, danced with him, laughed with him, and made sure he has always had a family and a place to belong.

Today, we celebrate our Rodney and the joy, music, laughter, and goodness he brings to our family.

Happy birthday, Rodney. We sure are grateful you’re ours. ❤️🎂

Another player is stepping up FOR THE KIDS. 🎲

We’re excited to welcome Fairway Home Mortgage as a HOPE-OPOLY sponsor!

Sponsors like Fairway are doing more than putting their name behind an event. They’re putting their name behind a home and behind a future where kids with profound disabilities have the security, stability, and belonging of a forever home.

Thank you, Fairway Home Mortgage, for choosing to invest in our kids and the future we’re building together.

And the countdown is officially getting real…

We are just TWO MONTHS away from HOPE-OPOLY and the night our community comes together to help build a forever home for 8 kids living at Hope House.

The board is filling up.
Our community is showing up.
And we’re building this FOR THE KIDS. ❤️

Every time I give a tour of Hope House, I stop here.

This is Rose. "Mother Rose"

I never had the privilege of meeting her, but somehow, I feel like I know her.
Her presence is still here. Her work is still here. Her strength, courage, and determination are woven into the fabric of Hope House.

And I love this picture of her.

Look at her posture. Look at that smile. You can almost see the fire in her, the kind of woman who saw children the world had overlooked and decided she was going to do something about it.

I love telling Rose’s story and how Hope House came to be. It is a story worthy of a movie. Truly. The kind of story that seems almost impossible until you realize one woman actually lived it.

Sixty years later, we are still living in the story Rose started.

And later this fall, as we prepare for HopeOpoly, we’re going to tell more of that story. We’ll share Rose’s story in a special video and honor the extraordinary foundation she laid, not simply by looking backward, but by carrying it forward.

Because now it is our turn.

We have been entrusted with the mission she began: to make sure some of the most vulnerable children in our community know the safety, dignity, belonging, and love of a forever home.

Rose built the foundation.
Now we get to build on it, together.

⚡ WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR HAND? ⚡

For Josh Ortiz and his son Logan of J&Co, the answer is pretty simple: they know how to bring the power. And they’re using that skill to help build the future of Hope House.

Josh and Logan have generously donated their electrical services to bring the initial power to our new 54-acre Renewed Hope community, the future home of children and adults with profound disabilities for generations to come.

A place like Hope House simply does not exist without a community that chooses to show up.

Again and again, we get a front-row seat to people in our community taking whatever is in their hands and using it to care for some of the most vulnerable among us.
That’s exactly what Josh and Logan have done.

Josh, Logan, and the entire J&Co team—thank you for putting your skills to work for our kids.

This is how Hope House gets built.

One person. One business. One gift. One community saying, “Here’s what I have. How can I help?”

🎉 Help us wish our dear Karla a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🎂💚

Karla has been part of the Hope House family for quite a while, and if you’ve ever had the privilege of being around her, you know she brings a little extra s***k and a whole lot of joy (or maybe attitude) wherever she goes.

And that smile. ❤️ It can light up an entire room.

Karla’s life is a beautiful reminder that a person is so much more than their limitations. Here at Hope House, she is surrounded by people who know her, love her, celebrate her, and get a front-row seat to watching her shine.

Happy Birthday, Karla! 🥳 We love you, and we’re so thankful you call Hope House home. 💚

👇 Help us fill the comments with birthday love for Karla!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

Today was a pretty incredible day at Hope House. Our kids walked into their first day of school at the new Hope Academy UT Charter School — a school created right here around the children we love and serve.

For many of our kids, education has always required someone to figure out how to make the system work for them. Hope Academy starts with a different question: What if we built the learning environment around the child?

Around their abilities and limitations.
Their communication.
Their pace.
Their therapies and care.
Their personalities and interests.
The wonderfully unique way each of them experiences the world.
That has always been the bigger vision for Hope Academy.

As we build the future of Hope House, Hope Academy is part of a much larger vision: creating a new model where children with profound disabilities can live, learn, grow, work, belong and be known within a community designed with them in mind from the very beginning.

Today, though, we just get to celebrate.
New classrooms. New teachers. New possibilities.

Happy first day, Hope Academy.
Look at these kids go. 🥹📚
