2026 NEA Representative Assembly Report from Denver, Colorado:

After a long, but rewarding week of conducting the business of the union, the 2026 NEA Representative Assembly has officially ended!

Delegate Caitlin Morgan represented Liberal-NEA alongside four other delegates from Southwest Uniserv — 94 total from Kansas — and almost 6,000 total delegates from all 50 states and Federal.

The Representative Assembly, RA, serves as the highest decision-making body of NEA (and is also the world’s largest democratic body!!) Together, the delegates conducted the official business of the NEA, representing the voices of its nearly 3 million members. To shape the direction and governance of our union, delegates considered 91 items of business, ranging from policies on AI and promoting teaching resources to amendments to the Legislative Program, Standing Rules, Constitution, Bylaws, and Resolutions.

Additionally, delegates heard reports from committees and union leadership, speeches from the Teacher of the Year, ESP of the Year, and Higher Education Teacher of the Year, participated in elections which included all three NEA executive officer positions, and attended the Days of Learning across two days, choosing from more than 80 sessions focused on union leadership, advocacy, and other education-related topics.

The work accomplished at the RA will shape the direction of the NEA for the coming year and demonstrates the strength of our collective voice and the importance of educators having a seat at the table in the decisions that shape our profession!

At the KNEA-RA this weekend, we were awarded the Wootton-Hensley Political Achievement Award, which recognizes service in the field of political action.

We received this recognition for our political advocacy through our candidate forum to ensure informed voters in the USD 480 board elections.

We are honored to receive this recognition and would like to thank Levi Burnfin of GCEA for nominating us and highlighting Southwest Kansas!

Vouchers disguised as “tax credits” are still vouchers. All Kansas students deserve a quality education, and that means not rerouting state taxpayer money to fund private education. Kansas taxpayer dollars must be used to fully fund and strengthen our public schools. Make sure your representatives know where you stand.

There will be a regularly scheduled USD 480 Board of Education meeting today at 6:30 PM in room C107 at LHS East Campus. View agenda here: https://tinyurl.com/USD480BOE
