We're celebrating America Recycles Day with a coloring contest — and introducing two new friends along the way! 🎉

🦝🐢 Meet Murray & Ricky Raccoon, the newest members of the Lexington County Solid Waste Management crew!

📅 Starting TODAY, October 12, Lexington County children ages 4–12 can join the fun! Color Murray and Ricky, solve a recycling riddle, and use the Lexington County Solid Waste App to uncover a secret code word for a chance to win!

🏆 THREE AGE GROUPS. THREE WINNERS!

🎁 Each winner will receive an EdVenture family ticket pack, a $100 Visa gift card, and a VIP Edmund Landfill tour!

Kassidy enjoyed recognizing the efforts of our Lexington County Green Step schools at yesterday's County Council meeting. We have some pretty amazing educators in Lexington County and it is always an honor to highlight them in this way.

Kids enjoyed listening to The Who’s in My Backyard Reptiles and Amphibian presentation presented by Metta and had fun making masks at the Batesburg - Leesville library.

Nick and Kassidy enjoyed their morning helping to host a rain barrel workshop with Lexington Countywide Stormwater Consortium. Attendees got to paint a pot and build a rain barrel to take home.

Kassidy had so much fun with the after school students at Pelion Elementary for their October program. Students listened to the book, “Lilly’s Surprise Pumpkins” by Beth Charles and created their own pumpkins. Younger students created paper plate pumpkins and older students created torn paper pumpkins. Students also learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin. 🎃 🍂

📣 Our mini-grant applications are OPEN! SC educators, it's time to bring your big ideas to life. We're now accepting applications for mini-grants of up to $1,000 to support:

- Professional development and training for educators
- Student learning opportunities and field experiences
- Service projects that support environmental stewardship

Don't miss your chance to fund hands-on learning experiences in your classroom or community. At this time, our mini-grants are only available to current EEASC members, BUT an annual membership costs as little as $20. WORTH IT!

Kassidy had a blast this afternoon with the Nature Club at East Point Academy Elementary School! They learned about insects and got to invent their own insect on paper!

Accept the Natural Challenge!

SC Envirothon tests high school students' knowledge of wildlife, forestry, aquatics, soils, and a current topic. Students work together in teams of five to complete hands-on written exams and an oral presentation on the current topic. This competition introduces students to careers in natural resources, increases environmental awareness, and promotes collaboration.

Kassidy had fun with the after school students at Pelion Elementary yesterday. They listened to the book “Thank a Farmer” and created their own hamburgers to understand where each part comes from. Younger students sorted through crops/animals and placed them in each of the correct areas.
