Benchmark Family Services, Inc. was established in 1994 and is a private, faith based, non-profit, therapeutic foster care agency.

Our purpose is to provide stable and caring homes for youth in need of out-of-home care. Our mission is to advocate for children by ensuring opportunities for healthy physical, psychological and emotional growth and development in the most normal and least restrictive setting possible. Benchmark Family Services, Inc. services children who have been removed from their homes by the Department of Children’s Services (DCS) due to neglect, physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse suffered in their biological home. Most of the children served by Benchmark are experiencing behavioral, emotional, and/or mental health problems as a result of being abused or neglected and receive therapy either on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Additionally, some children are under the care of a psychiatrist and receive medications to manage their mental health needs. Why Choose Benchmark? Benchmark provides strong and consistent support to our foster care families. We provide:
Each foster care family with weekly contact with their case manager, including a minimum of two home visits per month
24 hour/7 day a week emergency cell phone access to a case manager in the event of a crisis
Respite care for foster children when needed
Premium financial compensation to support the needs of youth placed in the home

We’re on a mission to make sure every child in Kentucky has a safe, loving place to land, and we need your help spreading the word.

This is a simple way to show visible support for foster care right here in our communities. 💙 Every sign helps spark conversations that could lead to a child finding a home.

🪧 How to Participate:
Step 1: Pick up one of our agency yard signs at our Lexington office.
Step 2: Place the sign in your yard or at your business.
Step 3: Take a photo and make your own Facebook post and tag us!

✨ The more your post is shared, the more visibility your message creates, and each share will be counted as an additional entry.
Prefer not to post? No problem! You can still receive 1 entry by messaging us directly with your photo.

Can’t pick up a sign? Send us a DM with your address and we’ll deliver one to you.

🎁 The Challenge:
Each original photo submission counts as one entry into a random drawing for a $150 Visa gift card.

We’ll run the challenge through September 23rd, and the winner will be selected at random and announced via Facebook Live on September 25th.

🌟✨ Staff Spotlight ✨🌟

This week, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Jordan Schwalbe, our Licensing Specialist 💙

Jordan joined our organization in September 2025 after previously working as a TSS with Benchmark a couple years ago. With a background in psychology 🧠 and a passion for social work ❤️, Jordan discovered a true calling in helping children and families through the foster care system.

“Licensing is such an important role because there are so many kids in the system and not enough foster parents. It is important to get prospective parents in the door to open up good quality homes.”

Jordan loves meeting prospective foster parents, hearing their stories, and helping guide them through the process of opening their homes to children in need 🏡 Knowing more foster families are stepping forward is what keeps Jordan motivated every day. And yes… Jordan says caffeine helps too!

Outside of work, Jordan enjoys all kinds of creative hobbies 🎨🧶—especially crocheting gifts for friends and family. Jordan is also a big fan of reading 📚, Marvel movies 🦸‍♂️, fantasy and sci-fi adventures 🐉, Adam Sandler comedies 🎬, and watching The Big Bang Theory 📺💫

🐶 Fun Fact: In college, Jordan fostered service dogs in training and later worked as a dog trainer at PetSmart for about a year! 🦮🐾

🌟 Staff Spotlight 🌟

Meet one of our dedicated team members who has been with us since March 31, 2025!

What do they enjoy most about the job? While he jokes it’s moments he is not working, what truly stands out is celebrating kids’ successes, especially handing out high fives when they’re doing well. 🙌

His journey into this field is deeply personal. After facing a difficult experience in high school and struggling to find the right support, he learned firsthand how important it is not just to talk—but to talk to the right people. That experience inspired him to pursue a degree in psychology and become someone others can turn to in tough moments, so no one has to feel alone.

A typical day includes tackling paperwork, helping resolve challenges that come up with foster youth, and heading out for home visits—often wrapping up the day in the evening. It’s busy, meaningful work where no two days are ever the same.

Outside of work, he enjoys cooking, playing guitar, gaming, and watching comedies. They also like working with their hands—because “busy hands means a clear mind.” 🎸🎮

📺 Shows: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia or The Office
📚 Books: The Swiss Family Robinson and The Lord of the Rings

Dream getaway? A quiet cabin in the mountains for some peace and reset. Or maybe a trip to France or the Scottish Highlands.

Fun fact: He has competed in four demolition derbies (cars built with their dad!) and even earned a “Mad Dog” award for most aggressive driver. 🚗💥

What motivates him? Building a stable, comfortable life while making a difference and never letting others down.

His message to others considering this work:
“Just do it. You don’t need experience or even to have been a parent. You just need patience, love, and the willingness to make a difference in someone’s life.”

We’re grateful to have him on the team and for the heart he brings to this field every day. 💙
