Thank you to everyone who joined Grant Ready Kentucky, the U.S. Economic Development Administration, and the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development for a working session on EDA Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance funding. City and county officials, area development districts, nonprofits, and higher education institutions came together for a breakdown of this funding opportunity.

We covered what EDA's two core programs fund, how coal-impacted communities qualify through the Assistance to Coal Communities pathway, local match requirements alongside the Kentucky GRANT Program, how EDA reviews and scores applications, and real-world examples of recent Kentucky awards.

Kentucky ranks among the states best positioned to compete for this funding, and the opportunity remains open now on a rolling basis with no fixed application deadline.

The Kentuckians who reach out to Grant Ready Kentucky every day are varied. Sometimes it's the executive director or a board member of a small nonprofit, sometimes the mayor or fiscal court staff of a city or county, and sometimes a group of concerned citizens with no formal organization at all, such as volunteer disaster recovery groups. Often, they’re reaching out about a project their community needs and a funding process that wasn't built with them in mind.

Meeting that need is the heart of our work. In 2025, that meant:
-Free one-on-one coaching for 150 organizations across the Commonwealth
-Support preparing and submitting more than $58 million in grant applications
-2,887 Kentucky leaders trained through 10,000+ hours of professional development, led by nationally certified grant professionals and offered in every region of the state

But the numbers aren't the whole story. Read about the communities behind them, and the lasting change they're creating, in our 2025 Impact Report, online at impact.grantreadyky.org/grant-ready-kentucky-2025-impact-report.

We are delighted to unveil our brand-new Grant Readiness Assessment!

For several months, we have been building and refining this tool, which is designed to help Kentucky-based nonprofits and municipalities evaluate their readiness to pursue and manage grant funding. The assessment is organized into sections and covers everything from an organization’s history with grants to the financial tools and processes an organization has in place to support grant-funded work. Responses generate a readiness score that provides a snapshot of the organization's current strengths and areas for improvement. Organizations will also receive via email a detailed report with resources based on their responses.

Over time, organizations can use their scores as a baseline to track progress, guide internal discussions, and prioritize capacity-building.

You can access the Grant Readiness Assessment at grantreadyky.org/learn -ready.
