There’s no better time of year to be outside! Join us on Saturday, October 11 for "Brushy Trees and Autumn Leaves," a fall walk at Brushy Hills Preserve led by David Rosher. This 3/4 mile walk will focus primarily on tree identification, with special attention to oaks and hickories. Although hickories have a reputation for being difficult to identify, David will use leaf, bark, and fruit to distinguish the five species of hickory found at Brushy Hills. Walkers will encounter 40 different species of trees and shrubs along the route, and David will discuss the ecological significance of some of the species.

Meet at parking lot by the spring house (1010 Union Run). Parking is limited; carpool if possible. Rain date Sunday, October 12. For weather updates or questions, email [email protected].

Looking for plants for your garden? Rewilding your yard? Come to the Friends of Brushy Hills annual native plant sale on Sunday, September 21st! We will have a wide variety of trees, shrubs, ferns, forbs, grasses, and sedges, all sourced locally and ethically.

Because the plants are sourced locally, they are particularly well-suited to local yards. Many of them are deer resistant, and almost all the plants are growing somewhere in David’s yard, so you can see what they might look like in a few years before you buy them.

All proceeds go to Friends of Brushy Hills. Email [email protected] with questions.

When: Sunday, September 21 from 10 am to 2 pm
Where: 308 Enfield Road (David Rosher’s house). If you turn on Enfield Road from Lime Kiln, take the first drive on the left, stay on the main drive to the top, and look for a brick house.

p.s. Root 11 Native Plant Nursery is having a sale the same day at Hopkins Green from 11 am to 1 pm. Plant lovers, rejoice!
