To our NAMHSA community,

We want to offer a sincere and unreserved apology as the NAMHSA Board for the email that was sent to Anne Field regarding judging rules and performance items. The message caused hurt, frustration, and alarm, and we recognize that its tone and wording did not reflect the respect, clarity, or care our members deserve.

The intent behind the communication was to provide clarification, but the impact was very different. It came across as accusatory and threatening, and that is not acceptable. We deeply regret that a hobbyist was placed in such a position, and we are truly sorry to the individual affected and to the wider membership who read and reacted to the message.

The NAMHSA Board of Directors has set a priority to work as quickly as possible to remove the confusion between the terminologies surrounding the judging of performance and performance workmanship, and to define clearly our NAN judging criteria and qualification guidelines regarding these two Divisions.

We also acknowledge the seriousness of the situation that followed, including the resignation of the President. The Board would like to thank Lauren Byun for her volunteer service to the Board for the last two years as President. We wish her well in the hobby and all she chooses to pursue moving forward.

The Board takes responsibility for the missteps that led to this point. We are committed to rebuilding trust, improving how we communicate, and ensuring that future guidance is delivered with transparency, kindness, and collaboration.

We appreciate the patience and honesty of everyone who reached out or spoke up. Your feedback is essential, and we are listening. If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions as we move forward, please reach out to your Regional Representative or to Interim Vice President Sara Parr.

To the members of NAMHSA

A post was made today sharing exerpts from an email sent to a hobbyist over a controversial subject around judging. I'd like to step forward and say that I was the one who crafted the email based on discussions with the board of Directors. I however take full responsibility for the wording of that email.

It was never intended in a threatening manner in any way, rather to preemptively answer expected questions. I sincerely apologize to this hobbyist and to the membership that it came across in such a way. As a result, I've decided to resign as President and from the board entirely, effective immediately.

All questions on this topic may be directed to your region rep, or to the Interim Vice President, Sara Parr.

A big Thank You to Region 5 hobbyist Shannon Southard who donated for every entrant to have their own tshirt in a lovely aubergine purple. Additional thanks for this year's fantastic design donated by Artist Nikki Weijburg of O.G. Equine studios. Please give her studio page linked below a like for this fun fantasy designed based on her popular Aurora seahorse.

Shannon Southard also donated this year's cute camouflage crossbody messenger bags. Inside each bag is an original art card bookmark by Region 5 hobbyist Leah Patton, as well as NAMHSA pens, and hand sanitizer, lotion, purple bracelet, fun finger party light, ring pop, and floral crowns donated by Region 2 hobbyist Sara Parr
