Our WDS membership continues to show what service looks like when expertise meets heart — real work, real impact, felt across communities.

We recently had the privilege of hosting a Women's Shelter Initiative event in Houston, TX, bringing our mission beyond clinical practice.

On May 30 at the Houston Area Women's Center, volunteer dermatology professionals shared practical information on foundational skin, hair, and scalp health—from daily routines to common concerns—extending their expertise with authentic, accessible support.

Thank you to all who continue to partner, advocate, and volunteer to make this work possible. 🩷

Language is part of the patient experience.

Inclusive language in the dermatology clinic is more than a courtesy—it is an essential part of delivering patient-centered care. Simple things like using a patient's preferred name and pronouns can completely change how safe and seen a patient feels.

And when you're unsure? It's okay to ask. Asking with humanity shows patients that you care — and that moment goes a long way.

Some nights stay with you. 💫 We still find ourselves looking back on the 2026 Legacy Celebration Gala, reminded that the most meaningful celebrations aren't just about an evening — they're about the journeys, the dedication, and the lives shaped along the way. Surrounded by community, Bollywood glamour, and a whole lot of heart, we were inspired all over again. Thank you to everyone who showed up and continues to show up and support the mission of WDS ✨

A special thank you to our incredible sponsors, VIP supporters, donors, and attendees. Your generosity and partnership made this unforgettable night possible.

Through the WDS Play Safe in the Sun, we continue to witness the impact of hands-on, service-focused community outreach.

At the recent Lung Force Walk in New York City, volunteer dermatology professionals engaged individuals and families in meaningful conversations about sun safety and skin cancer prevention by reviewing the ABCDEs of melanoma detection, sharing strategies for keeping children safe in the sun, and distributing sunscreen samples and educational resources to promote healthy sun protection habits throughout the community.

We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers whose commitment to outreach, education, and service continues to expand the impact of the Play Safe in the Sun program in communities nationwide.

Step up your SPF game ☀️🧴 Learning the proper way to apply and reapply sunscreen is one of the easiest and most important ways to protect your skin.

That’s why WDS is proud to support skin cancer prevention through the Play Safe in the Sun program, bringing education, early detection, and community outreach to people nationwide. Since 2004, this award-winning public health initiative has reached hundreds of thousands of individuals across the U.S., helping people of all ages make informed, sun-safe choices every day.

From free skin cancer screenings led by board-certified dermatologists to sun safety education, sunscreen samples, UV-detecting bracelets, and prevention resources, Play Safe in the Sun continues to bring lifesaving education directly into communities across the country.
