Trees Lexington Growing a flourishing tree canopy for
all of Lexington Trees Lexington plants trees and inspires people to grow a more vibrant community.

Trees Lexington is a non-profit that empowers community members to dig in to the fun and fulfilling work of expanding and maintaining our local tree canopy. Through community tree plantings, tree giveaways, and education on proper tree care, Trees Lexington increases canopy cover, improves the health of our citizens, and preserves the character of our city. Working together, we enhance the beauty

of our community and nurture civic pride, connectivity with our neighbors, and stewardship of our environment. The tree canopy we cultivate today will enrich the legacy of the Lexington we leave to future generations.

Along the fence line at God’s Pantry Food Bank, 15 water loving trees were planted in several inches of standing water on Saturday morning. Sycamore, baldcypress, river birch, and overcup oaks are settling in and will help mitigate the standing water as they grow and provide numerous benefits to this industrial area.

Thanks to our great volunteers, we were able to quickly get the trees in the ground as the threat of rain increased. While we did get soaked while loading up the trailer, we’re grateful it held off until the very end - and that our trees planted in standing water were officially watered in at planting. Thank you to everyone who came out to make a difference for Lexington’s tree canopy!

We want to thank our KY Gives donors for helping us raise more than $1,000 in the last 24 hours! Your support makes a huge difference in our growth, not through the donations alone but in the heart and care behind every dollar given.

Perhaps you support Trees Lexington because you want cleaner air or more shade during summer heat. Maybe it’s because you want to provide habitat for birds and other wildlife. It might be that gorgeous catalpa in bloom or majestic oak down the street that has you wanting to help us get more trees planted across Lexington. There’s also the community you’ve found at our events, along with the fulfilling work of planting and caring for trees. Whatever it is that inspired you to give, we hope you realize the role you play in making Trees Lexington special and successful - THANK YOU!

We hope to see you at our upcoming events - Benefits of Trees for Mental Health, Tree Planting at God’s Pantry Food Bank, and Beneficial Insects and Host Trees. Find them all on our website: www.TreesLexington.org/events

Working together is key to growing Lexington’s tree canopy, and this past Sunday was a great example of that. A couple of months ago we were contacted by a recent graduate of Lexington’s Community Environmental Academy. This achievement earned him a $1,500 grant for a project in Lexington, and he hoped to collaborate on a tree planting in his neighborhood, Meadows/Loudon, aptly called Meadows Tree Project. With his connections and outreach efforts, and because of certain qualifiers of the project, we were able to utilize trees from a current grant that needed a home, and made a plan for nearly 70 trees to be planted.

Almost 20 volunteers gathered at a location with a spigot, mulch pile, tools, and trees. From there they worked in groups to tackle planting trees on various streets in the neighborhood - and most of them as street trees! This round of planting will end up installing close to 55 3-gallon trees, with 40 of those being planted on Sunday.

Thank you to the great volunteers who spent their Sunday afternoon planting trees and connecting, to our friend Aaron Lee for his hard work in setting a solid framework for the Meadows Tree Project and reaching out to us, and to the residents of Meadows/Loudon Neighborhood who welcomed the trees and volunteers. We can’t wait to watch these trees grow and thrive, and canopy return to this neighborhood!
