Can creativity change the way we do science?

At AMI 2026, Ahna Skop, Ph.D., will challenge the idea that rigor and imagination exist in opposition during her session, Too Creative for Science? Bridging Art and Discovery in Biomedical Research.

A Professor of Genetics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, scientist-artist, and entrepreneur, Dr. Skop integrates visual thinking and artistic practice into her groundbreaking research in cell biology and cancer diagnostics. From large-scale science-art installations to pioneering discoveries in midbody biology, her work demonstrates how creativity can drive innovation and discovery in biomedical research.

Her session will explore the powerful role of artistic thinking in science and offer an inspiring perspective for medical illustrators, visual communicators, and creative scientists alike.
