As many of us have heard by now, one of our largest employers in Lexington, Nebraska, has announced the closure of its facility and dismissal of its large employee base in the coming months.

It is certainly a time to pause and a time of concern, but I want to shout and champion what Lexington, Nebraska, is and how we will not let this moment define us.

My wife and I became residents of greater Nebraska in October 2018. Over the past seven years we have grown in our community and cannot think of anywhere we would rather be. My wife and I have both seen our careers change, but our community has never wavered in its support of us.

Lexington boasts a robust community of diligent and hard-working people with an entrepreneurial spirit.

I remember what I told the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce when I was asked to become a member: As I look down our Main Street, Highway 30 and Plum Creek Parkway and on down to to I-80, there are more first-generation business owners and successful businesses than in any other community I can think of. Lexington and greater Dawson County provide opportunity for many people.

While today we may have lost a significant employer, we also have an opportunity as a community. We ready and excited to welcome an employer who sees the same hard-working spirit that I see in our town.

Kiwanis trees sales are in the FFA building on the Dawson County Fairgrounds. They will begin selling them Monday November 24th at 3 pm. Hours are Monday through Friday 3 pm to 8 pm. Saturday 10 am to 8 pm and Sunday Noon to 6 pm.
