This week’s Woman of the Week is Anna Katherine Sherman! Read on to learn more about AK and why she joined WLSO:

"Hey y'all! I'm AK Sherman and I'm a 2L from Mobile, AL. Before coming to W&L, I studied Psychology and Spanish at the University of Alabama. I joined WLSO because I wanted to be a part of this community that celebrates women in the legal field, and it has been such a fun part of my law school experience!"

Congratulations to Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson on her Senate confirmation! She is the first black woman on the Supreme Court of the United States, and the 6th woman to sit on the Court!

This week’s Woman of the Week is incoming SBA President Brighid O'Donoghue! Read on to learn more about Brighid and why she joined WLSO:

“Hi, my name is Brighid, and I am a 2L originally from Wilmette, IL just outside Chicago. I majored in International Studies at Boston College. After school, I taught math at a high school through the Jesuit Volunteer Corp in Atlanta. Then, I spent six months in Chile with the English Opens Doors program, before returning to Chicago to work at a trusts and estates law firm. I joined WLSO originally because of the mentorship program, and it was a great way to meet fellow future women lawyers at W&L Law and take part in some fun events.”

“Hi, my name is Jordan Miceli and I am a 3L from Dallas, Texas! I went to the University of Georgia for undergrad, where I studied International Affairs, Women’s Studies, and History. I joined WLSO because I value strong female relationships and love to see other women supporting and lifting up their peers in a competitive environment! My closest friends are in WLSO and it has shaped my law school experience in the very best way.”

“Hi, my name’s Cydney Clark and I’m a 2L from Bassett Virginia. I went to Christopher Newport University for undergrad where I studied Psychology and Leadership Studies. I joined WLSO to surround myself with women who support and uplift other women.”

Come enjoy an elegant night with WLSO to explore identity and culture with our very special guest, Professor Wendy Greene! Join us at 7:00 PM on Friday, March 25th in the Moot Court Room to hear virtual remarks from Professor Greene of Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law, a scholar in U.S anti-discrimination law who uses her platform to advocate for racial, color and gender equity in workplaces and beyond. She will speak about her work on the CROWN Act and the importance of respecting the professional identity and culture of others in the workplace. Afterwards, head over to the W&L Reeves Museum of Ceramics and Watson Galleries with WLSO to further explore identity and culture with the current exhibit: The Root of the Matter by Sharon Norwood, a conceptual artist of Caribbean descent. Norwood explores complex issues of identity and cultural relationships using the deceptively simple element of line. Alumni will be present for a networking reception following the presentation with current students. Cocktail attire. Open bar and food provided.

“Hey, y’all! My name is Raven, and I’m a 3L from Memphis, TN! I graduated from undergrad at Rhodes College (also located in the 901) in 2018. Afterwards, I took a gap year—dabbled in the local fashion industry, traveled, and worked for a fantastic family law attorney in Memphis. I chose to be a part of WLSO, because some of my most genuine connections at W&L are with the inspirational women in the organization. I’m happy to join a field with such hard-working women who uplift each other!”

Come to Classroom A this Thursday for the "Working with Women Seeking Asylum" panel. This panel will be moderated by Dean Baluarte and will feature women lawyers who work in various settings to help women seeking asylum. The event will start at 6 PM, and snacks will be provided. We hope to see you there!

“Hi my name is Natalia Micheli, and I am a 2L here at Washington and Lee. I am from Fairfax Virginia, but I grew up in Poland. I graduated from William & Mary in 2020 with a degree in International Relations. I decided to join WLSO because I wanted to surround myself with other like-minded and ambitious women in the legal profession; not to mention the amazing opportunities for networking!”

“Hi, my name is Katie Ferguson, and I am a 2L originally from Houston, TX. I studied English and Art History at the University of Virginia. After school, I moved to New York City and worked for Christie's Auction House in various roles. I joined WLSO because I think forming relationships and networks among future women lawyers is a vital investment in our profession. I am grateful for WLSO's events because they do a great job of keeping our community engaged and providing opportunities for meeting new people.”
