Kentucky Association of Equine Practitioners Organizing Kentucky Equine Practitioners The Kentucky Association of Equine Practitioners (KAEP) was established January 13, 1979.

It was organized as a constituent of the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association (KVMA) in an effort to organize Kentucky equine practitioners for the purpose of cultivating fraternal feelings, providing continuing education, to increase the mutual improvement of its members and for providing a unified voice in upholding the municipal State and Federal laws and protecting the rights and privileges

of practitioners of Veterinary Medicine in the pursuit of responsible veterinary practice for the health of the horse and benefit of the equine industry.

โœ…Michelle Shane, Executive Director of the Kentucky Board of Veterinary Examiners, will share information on licensure renewals, legislative and regulatory updates, and local and national veterinary news

Effective immediately and through Aug. 01, 2026:
โœ… Any animal demonstrating clinical signs of NWS infestation are prohibited from entry into Kentucky
โœ… Movement requirements for large animals originating from infested states are required to have:
โœ”๏ธ Kentucky permit number obtained from the Kentucky Office of State Veterinarian (OSV)
โœ”๏ธ๏ธ CVI Issued within 72 hours prior to entry into Kentucky
โœ”๏ธ Signed statement from an Accredited Veterinarian (AV) attesting: โ€œI have inspected the animals included in this shipment and have found them free of clinical signs of NWS myasisโ€ or state of origin or Kentucky pre-movement inspection forms filled and signed if available. (must accompany movement)
โœ”๏ธ Notation of any treatments given to the animals on this shipment for NWS
โœ”๏ธ Signed Statement/Form obtained within 24 hours after entry into Kentucky attesting that the animals were inspected by (in order of preference): a private Kentucky AV or their authorized designee; a Kentucky OSV personnel (subject to availability); or a Kentucky USDA VS Personnel (subject to availability) AND that the animal is free of NWS.
โš ๏ธ Equine movements must be accompanied by valid EIA result forms for each equine.
โš ๏ธ ALL animal movements from the Counties containing Control Zones and Counties adjacent to counties containing Control Zones must also meet any Federal or State requirements for movement out of those Control Areas prior to entry into Kentucky.

๐ŸšจEffective immediately: The Kentucky Department of Agriculture Office of the State Veterinarian has released guidelines on the movement of large animals from Texas into the state of Kentucky.

These guidelines were put in place after a confirmed New World Screwworm infestation in Zavala County, Texas. They are effective until August 1, 2026. ๐Ÿชฐ
