We apologize to the thousands of members of the HelpAroundTown Facebook group: to shut the group, we must have zero member. The only way to do that is to ban every single member of the group. You're all great people and great organizations and we hate to do this. But Facebook will not allow a group to close otherwise.

Saying Good-bye

Dear HelpAroundTown users,

We regret to inform you HelpAroundTown will be shutting down on Sunday, April 6th.

We are proud to have accomplished our founding mission from 2010: enable unemployed youth to find jobs, save for college and launch their careers by connecting them with neighbors who need help.

We've launched the careers of thousands of youth, supplemented the incomes of empty nesters, and enabled thousands of Seniors to stay in their houses longer. thanks to the help they found through our site, from so many of you.

We thank you for your participation during our fourteen years of operation. As a bootstrapped, hyper-lean company, we've always been in start-up mode. With the help and guidance of many supporters and advisors, we've outlived companies that have raised millions.

By connecting neighbors, together, we reduced isolation and loneliness among Seniors, earning the Optimal Aging Award from the Governor's Council to Promote Aging in Mass, MIT AgeLab & GE Healthcare.

As a community marketplace for help, HelpAroundTown was designed to help everyone in the community - young and old, non-profits and small home-based businesses, town organizations and artists.

We wish you all the best in the years ahead,

Reem Yared
Founder & CEO

Have you experienced an increase in during COVID?
Is your loneliness decreasing now?
Do you have any suggestions for reducing loneliness?

Jobs between neighbors

HelpAroundTown connects neighbors for jobs. Our mission is to create a safe and easy way to monetize people’s To Do lists into jobs for neighbors looking for occasional, local, flexible work. Our helpers supplement their income, without committing to a regular job. The buyers are families, retirees, empty nesters, businesses and non-profits, posting jobs on the site. Businesses large and small and community organizations promote their offerings on the Bulletin Board and list their services on Help Available.

HelpAroundTown was started to create jobs for high school students, so they could save for college after the Great Recession. Today, we cover the whole spectrum, and in particular, we help Seniors age in place, by connecting them with neighbors who can provide ‘an extra pair of hands’ for jobs that don’t require an agency or a tradesperson.
