Many thanks to the Lexington Community and especially our postal carriers for all the donations today - we collected over 10,000 pounds of food that will keep our shelves stocked for a while.

May 9th is the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

1. Please help raise awareness of this drive with your friends and neighbors - every household in town will receive a packet in the mail that includes an info card and a plastic bag. Residents can fill this bag, leave it out on May 9th and their mail carrier will bring the donation to the food pantry.

2. Help recruit volunteers. As you can imagine, sorting and putting away this food takes a lot of people. Below is a link for volunteers to sign up. Children 10 -14 are welcome as long as they are accompanied by an adult. High schools students can volunteer unaccompanied (and also get Community Service Hours)

The Post Office "Stamp Out Hunger" Drive is the biggest food drive of the year (May 9th) . The Lexington Lions Club supports this effort by stuffing "envelopes" that contain a bag, an informational postcard and a donation envelope which are then delivered to every household in town.

They need stuffing help - if you are available this Saturday - please consider signing up.

As you likely know, the federal government is ending SNAP benefits on Oct 31st. Governor Healy held a press conference last week expressing alarm, but also stating that the state does not have the resources to help. Her advice? Reach out to your local food pantry and see what they need.

There are close to 1,500 households in Lexington who receive SNAP benefits. The Lexington Food Pantry needs your help to support them in the coming weeks and months.

Just an update from the Food Pantry - we are busier than we have ever been currently supporting an average of 130 - 150 families weekly. Increasingly we are seeing families with children as well as many of the sheltered families who are living at the Element.

As we enter this busy time of year, our shelves are pretty empty at the end of each Saturday. A number of organizations are running food drives in the coming weeks and while that is very helpful, what is most helpful is financial donations - please consider supporting us this month.

Donations can be mailed: PO Box 635, Lexington, MA 02420 or made online -
