For the SECOND year in a row, the Faulkner Morgan Archive is proud to honor some of the iconic individuals and organizations who have made a major impact on Kentuckyโ€™s LGBTQ history on street banners throughout downtown Lexington! ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ

At a time when our LGBTQ community is constantly under attack, finding joy can be difficult. However, looking to the past provides a unique opportunity to remind ourselves that q***r people are in Kentucky and have always been in Kentucky and will forever be in Kentucky. Here, Kentuckyโ€™s rich q***rness is on full display!

This project was made possible with the support of JustFundKY and the LFUCG Mayorโ€™s Office. You can learn more at faulknermorgan.org/banners.

Established in the late 1970s, Spiraland Le***an Land Trust (or SPIRAL) was a rural le***an commune in Monticello in Wayne County in the south-central part of Kentucky. It was described as a important Southern space for women to live together and form community with one another.

While there is not much documentation of the space, there are mentions of the land in both Le***an Connection and Southern Exposure in the 1980s. In 2022, Cedar Heartwood also recounted her experience at Spiraland in a blog post for the Southern Le***an Feminist Activist Herstory Project.

Tonight at 8/7, on the season finale of Kentucky Life - KET, explore the history of mapmaking in Kentucky; learn how artist and poet Henry Faulkner's upbringing in Kentucky influenced his life and work; and take a tour of Lexington's Main Street to discover the buildings and objects that tell the city's history.

We are so excited to use his funding to continue sharing Kentucky's LGBTQ History! ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 1, 2026

JustFundKY Awards Over $95,000 to LGBTQ Initiatives Across Kentucky Amid Challenging Climate

At a time when LGBTQ+ communities across Kentucky are navigating an increasingly difficult political and social landscape, we are investing directly in resilience, visibility, and joy.

Today, we announce the recipients of our 2026 Cliff Todd Endowment grants, awarding $95,461 to community-driven projects spanning the Commonwealth, from Pikeville to Paducah. This yearโ€™s cohort reflects both urgency and innovation, with organizations adapting creatively to ensure LGBTQ+ Kentuckians remain seen, supported, and celebrated.

Even in challenging times, these organizations are finding ways to build connection, tell stories, and create spaces where people feel safe and valued. This work is not only necessary, it is transformative.

As a $2.4 million endowment, we have invested $748,000 in 94 organizations since 2011, reaching every county in Kentucky. We support educational and community-based initiatives that raise awareness, foster belonging, and advance equity for LGBTQ people statewide.

We remain committed to building a Kentucky where all people, regardless of identity, can live openly, safely, and with dignity.
