Girls to Women Explosion This event is a series of different workshops & activities for girls 8-16 yrs old. We focus on self esteem, bullying, communication, & conflict resolution.

The “Girls to Women Explosion” is a retreat for young ladies ages 8-17 that has been held the third weekend in June since 2016. We bring together young ladies from Lexington and neighboring counties to participate in activities ranging from conflict resolution and internet safety to Zumba and journaling to express emotions. The young ladies enjoy the sisterhood, bonding, and discussions that take

place each year. The event has generated stellar ratings from parents, and participants are eager to return. In 2017, we were blessed with the opportunity to expand beyond the weekend retreat and to host other activities and workshops throughout the year. We plan to continue to host events that help girls focus on positive decision-making and the subsequent consequences their decisions can have on their emotional well-being and the relationships they have in the future. As they say, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” With continued social support and a strong sense of self-esteem, these young ladies can make beneficial choices; withstand negative environmental influences, and go on to excel in life. The young ladies who participate in our events will continue to gain the following skills:
 Build self-esteem through journaling
 Encourage healthy, emotional self-expression through art projects
 Improve critical thinking through role play of difficult situations
 Develop manners and foster appropriate behavior through practice of etiquette
 Create a support system by meeting other young people and connecting with mentors
