πŸ’œ Communities That Show Up πŸ’œ

After the severe storms last weekend, we were faced with unexpected damage when a tree came down on our building. During a time that could have felt overwhelming, we were reminded of the incredible kindness and support that surrounds us.

We want to give a HUGE thank you to Brent Graves for stepping in and bringing in Double L Tree Service to remove the tree, and trim the rest, completely free of charge.

Your generosity means more than we can put into words. As a nonprofit organization, every act of kindness like this allows us to continue focusing our time and resources where they are needed most, supporting survivors and our communities.

This is what makes our communities so special. πŸ’œ When neighbors help neighbors, when businesses lend a hand, and when people show up with compassion, it creates something truly powerful.

From all of us at Sheltering Hands THANK YOU for helping us when we needed it most. We are beyond grateful. πŸ’œπŸŒ³

🌈 Happy Pride Month from Sheltering Hands! 🌈

This month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. Pride is more than a celebrationβ€”it is a reminder that everyone deserves to live free from violence, fear, discrimination, and abuse.

At Sheltering Hands, we believe that safety, support, and respect should be available to all people, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. We recognize that LGBTQ+ individuals can face unique barriers when seeking help and support, and we remain committed to providing compassionate, inclusive services for everyone in our community.

As we celebrate Pride Month, we stand with survivors, advocate for equality, and continue working toward a future where every person feels safe, valued, and empowered to be their authentic self.

May is coming to an end, but mental health awareness should never stop. πŸ’š

At Sheltering Hands, we know that healing from domestic violence is not only physical it is emotional and mental, too. Abuse can leave lasting impacts like anxiety, depression, fear, low self-worth, PTSD, and emotional exhaustion.

Mental health matters for survivors.
Rest matters.
Support matters.
Being heard matters.

This month, we want to remind anyone struggling that you are not alone, and you do not have to carry everything by yourself. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Whether you are healing, surviving, supporting someone you love, or simply trying to make it through one day at a time your feelings are valid, and your life matters.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, let’s continue creating a community where people feel safe asking for help, speaking up, and supporting one another without judgment. πŸ’š

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to remind everyone of something simple but important: you matter. πŸ’š

Your feelings matter.
Your story matters.
Your healing matters.
And your life matters even on the days it may not feel like it.

Mental health struggles can affect anyone, and no one should have to face them alone.

Be gentle with yourself this month. Check in on your loved ones. Ask for help if you need it. And remember reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

You are important. You are valued. You matter. πŸ’š

In honor of National Police Week, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the men and women in law enforcement who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting our community. Your commitment, sacrifice, and professionalism do not go unnoticed. We are grateful for the partnership we share and for the work you do each day to keep families safe. Thank you for your service, your courage, and your continued support of the community we serve together. πŸ’™

It’s important to recognize the deep connection between mental health and domestic violence.

Domestic violence affects far more than physical safety. The emotional, verbal, financial, and psychological abuse survivors experience can have lasting impacts on mental health long after the abuse ends. Many survivors struggle with anxiety, depression, PTSD, panic attacks, low self-esteem, isolation, sleep difficulties, and overwhelming fear while trying to rebuild their lives.

For many victims, the trauma of abuse can make everyday tasks feel impossible. Something as simple as answering a phone call, going to work, trusting others, or feeling safe at home can become incredibly difficult after experiencing violence and control. Survivors are often blamed, judged, or asked why they stayed, when the real question should be: β€œHow can we support them?”

Healing from domestic violence is not linear. It takes time, patience, support, and access to safe resources. Mental health support plays a critical role in helping survivors regain confidence, process trauma, and begin healing emotionally as well as physically.

At Sheltering Hands, we see the strength and resilience of survivors every single day. We also see the invisible wounds trauma leaves behind. That is why creating safe spaces, offering support, and showing compassion matters so deeply.

This month, we encourage our community to not only raise awareness about mental health, but also to recognize how domestic violence impacts emotional well-being. Survivors deserve to be heard, believed, supported, and treated with kindness, not shame.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, please know that help is available and you do not have to go through it alone. Healing is possible, and there is hope beyond the hurt. πŸ’œ
