A Note About CKHA Academy Selection

As part of the CKHA Academy's initial soft opening, participation was limited to a select group of players.

To ensure a fair and consistent process, players were evaluated and ranked by their respective team coaching staffs using standardized player evaluations. A selection committee then reviewed those evaluations and selected participants based on their readiness for the Academy's advanced skill level and competitive environment.

This initial Academy is a soft opening, not the full scope of what we envision for the program.

Our goal is to continue expanding development opportunities for players of varying ages and skill levels. Not being selected for this initial group does not limit a player's potential or opportunities to participate in future programs.

We are excited about what lies ahead and encourage all CKHA families to stay tuned for additional development opportunities!

For further questions regarding the Academy, please contact [email protected].

If you grew up on hockey in Lexington, you know these colors.

Teal and black. The stripes down the sleeve. Nights at Rupp when this town found out it was a hockey town — and a whole generation of kids decided that was the thing they wanted to do.

We brought them back.

The new Thoroughbreds throwback jerseys pull straight from that era: same colors, same striping, same feeling. But they do something the originals never did. One third of the cost of every jersey goes directly to funding our girls program — ice time, gear, coaching, and a place for more Lexington girls to find this game.

So wear it because it looks good. Wear it because it takes you back. But know that every one of these puts another girl on the ice.

🔥 PRESEASON WRAPPED FOR 10U A! 🔥

Our 10U A Thoroughbreds came ready to WORK this preseason! 💙💚

They kicked things off against Louisville 10U A Bronze, earning two big wins — 10-1 and 15-1. Next up was West Virginia Wild 10U A Gold, where they kept the momentum rolling with 9-2 and 9-3 wins.

To close out preseason play, the T-Breds stepped up to take on Louisville 10U AA. While those games ended 3-11 and 4-12, our kids battled against higher-level competition, kept working, and gained valuable experience heading into the season.

This group is hungry, working hard, and ready for what’s ahead. We can’t wait to see what they do this season!

10U A is just getting started. 🐎🔥

SEEDING WEEKEND ✔️💙💚

What a weekend for our Thoroughbreds! Our travel teams showed up ready to compete and put together a great weekend of hockey at their Buckeye seeding tournaments.

10U A finished the weekend undefeated at 4-0, while 10U B put together a strong 3-1 weekend. Our 12U and 14U teams both battled their way to 1-2-1 finishes.

We’re incredibly proud of the effort, teamwork, and compete level we saw from all of our teams this weekend.

Now we wait to see where everyone lands within the Buckeye Travel Hockey League — and we can’t wait to get the season underway!

It’s looking like it’s going to be a GREAT season for Thoroughbreds Hockey. 💙💚🏒

A NEW CHAPTER FOR THOROUGHBREDS HOCKEY. 💙💚

We are proud to officially introduce the Thoroughbreds Hockey Academy — an advanced development program created to identify, challenge, and develop the next generation of high-level hockey players right here in Central Kentucky.

The Academy is an invitation-based program for a select group of players who have demonstrated the skill, work ethic, compete level, and commitment to take their development further.

In a competitive, high-repetition environment, Academy players will be pushed beyond traditional team practices with a focus on advanced individual skills, skating and puck development, hockey IQ, decision-making, small-area games, and position-specific training.

Academy roster spots will be limited and intentionally selected across eligible age groups, with players considered based on coach recommendations, demonstrated ability, work ethic, and readiness for an advanced training environment. Qualified non-CKHA players may also be considered if space permits.

Being selected for the Thoroughbreds Hockey Academy comes with a higher standard. Players will be expected to bring a strong work ethic, positive attitude, consistent attendance, respect for coaches and teammates, and a willingness to be coached, challenged, and pushed outside their comfort zone.

Academy participation is supplemental and does not replace regular team practices or affect team placement.

Players will be nominated by head coaches and/or the Director of Hockey, with final selections made through a committee review process.

This is more than another practice.

It’s an investment in player development. A pathway for players ready to demand more of themselves, sharpen their game, and pursue the next level.

Developing the next generation of Thoroughbreds.
Same passion. Higher standards.

Welcome to the Thoroughbreds Hockey Academy. 🏒
