On tomorrow, check out the Resource Stewardship Scout Ranger Program and earn a newly redesigned patch upon completion of the program!

Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Eagle Scouts can earn a recognition certificate and a special patch for completing 1️⃣0️⃣ hours of service in national parks as a participant in the program. Scouts can participate in educational and volunteer service projects through a troop, event, travel, or 🏕️ camp experience at national park sites.

Examples of qualifying organized educational programs include the following:

🤠 Ranger-guided interpretive tours

🤠 Junior Ranger programs

🤠 Any other official NPS education program (campfire program, ranger-led hike, etc.)

Dr. Elbert K. Fretwell, an American educator and academic, pioneered work in the area of youth development through recreation and extracurricular activities. As the second Chief Scout Executive of Scouting America, Dr. Fretwell incorporated these concepts in various program changes during his tenure.

Today, Scouting America wishes to acknowledge and recognize our nation's educators who inspire our youth and our Scouts on a regular basis. The Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award was developed by Scouting America to recognize educators, administrators, and school districts that support the Scouting movement and incorporate the principles of the Scout Oath and Law into their curriculum and work with our future leaders.

Nominees for this award do not need to be registered members of Scouting America.

On this day in 2016, January 14, Scoutmaster and Research Scientist Roy Hinkley passed away. A genius from a very early age, he received his Ph.D from TCU at 15 and was the youngest to earn the rank of Eagle Scout in his hometown.
