Now onto the ones in Mexico so the slaughter pipeline is closed for the good of not only the horses, but the world in which they inhabit.
(We owe the horses of the world better ....in the name of everything they have given to us through not only history, but also on those days when only the barn or stable was able to save your soul.Cause peace was given to it the moment the reins were taken up to hold.Like an oath made...you save my soul time after time and I will devote my life to helping your kind. No matter bloodline or breed, this is the Equestrain's Creed.)
BREAKING: Bouvry Exports Alberta—once Canada's largest horse slaughterhouse—has closed for good!
After months of rumours, the Canadian Horse Defence Coalition has confirmed that the notorious facility has stopped accepting horses for slaughter.
This closure follows years of illegal cruelty to horses. In 2010, hidden-camera footage showed what appeared to be conscious horses having their throats cut while they were hung upside down. In 2023, Animal Justice filed a legal complaint after an investigation showed dead horses strewn about Bouvry's property, & many horses suffering from illnesses & injuries.
In 2025, Bouvry was convicted & fined just $17k after 12 charges were laid by the CFIA, mostly tied to animal suffering. The company reached a plea deal & pleaded guilty to a single paperwork-related offence. Its licence had also been suspended in 2022 over food safety concerns.
While Bouvry no longer slaughters horses in Alberta, the company is still shipping horses overseas for slaughter. Help ban live horse exports! 🐴: https://bit.ly/4n8cwfX
