Cooking Up Fun with SEEDs this summer!

Today was our last day cooking with SEEDs this summer, and while we're sad to see it end, we have had so much fun!

We partnered with Seedleaf this summer to teach students key principles of food justice and nutrition education. We also spent time each week in the kitchen learning basic food prep skills utilizing produce the students have been cultivating in their gardens. We made a variety of dishes with the students: mini fruit pizzas, omelets, a kale and potato breakfast hash, and we topped it off today by making a creamy Greek yogurt + kale potato salad for the students at Common Good to enjoy.

Our team wants to give a huge thank you to Ryan and his team at Seedleaf for partnering with us again this summer, and also to Jessie and Nika, UK students from the department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition, and Tori, a UK student in Community and Leadership Development, who played a large role in the curriculum development and implementation processes. We appreciate all of the work you put into this partnership to make these classes possible! We are continuously blown away by the students who partner with us to make our work in the community that much better, and are grateful to have wonderful partners in this work.

Making healthy eating more popular and accessible to youth is our driving passion! We've been included in this amazing list of groups who are also turning that passion into good work across KY!

Thanks Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services and First Lady Glenna Bevin for this recognition as part of National Nutrition Month.

, First Lady Glenna Bevin is praising the efforts of the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH), within the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), to address the prevalence of childhood obesity in its earliest stages, establishing a foundation of healthy habits to last a lifetime.
