NECR Beagle Rescue’s page will share updates on available beagles as well as upcoming events and happy tails with Northeast Coonhound Rescue.

Beagles are abandoned in shelters in many parts of the country because they have very little value as pets. They are kept outside in pens and some do not even have names! They are often surrendered after rabbit hunting season is over or if as a young pup they do not prove themselves to be good trackers. Like all shelter dogs, they become stray after wondering off, as well as fall victim to changes in the owners health, finances or life situations. Sam walked so Effie could run... 🐾

Sam the beagle visited📍France 🇫🇷 before his future sister Effie. “Sam spent the summer of 2016 in Bretagne (Brittany), France. We lived near the beautiful Parc du Thabor in Rennes, with its spectacular roses. Sam took many hikes on both the Atlantic coast and the northern coast (the English Channel). He was very shy when I adopted him in summer 2015, and the many positive experiences he had in France helped him to come out of his shell.”

Sam was a beagle who was rescued in North Carolina, adopted in 2015, and lived most of his life in Massachusetts and New York 🏠

This bluetick coonhound and beagle pair are road trip pros 🚙💨

Charlotte and Severus visited📍Niagara Falls, Tennessee, and Arizona! 🌊⛰
“We travel to upstate New York to visit family. Charlotte was fascinated at Niagara Falls! This year we drove cross country to Arizona to escape the winter. Some National Parks are dog friendly. We would hike in the desert making sure not to sniff too much off trail!”

Charlotte is a 12 year old bluetick coonhound who was rescued in Virginia and adopted in 2016. Her brother Severus is a 3 year old beagle who was rescued in Massachusetts and adopted in 2023. They live in Massachusetts 🏠

The beagles are dominating our Hounds Around the World feature so far! 💪

Effie the beagle regularly visits📍France. "Effie and I spend time in the south of France, where we enjoy the extensive hiking trails through the vineyards, past olive trees, through old villages, and with views of the Luberon and Provence Alps. France is very dog-friendly, so Effie often comes along with me on my errands and is much admired everywhere."

Effie is a 7 year old beagle who was rescued in West Virginia, adopted in 2021, and now lives in Massachusetts and New York🏠

Today's traveling hounds are BERT & ERNIE ⛱☀️

Bert & Ernie the beagles visited📍Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. "Bert & Ernie have done multiple road trips down to South Carolina, stopping in each state along the way. As they’ve gotten older, we’ve decided to keep them more at home in Massachusetts, but their adventures to SC were so fun. Myrtle Beach is our homestead in SC and the boys enjoyed the beach and the very cool dog parks when we were there. New England now is our main travel area for the boys, but we sure had a blast in SC."

Our very first hound around the world is ELMER 🌊

Elmer the beagle visited📍Fundy National Park in New Brunswick, Canada. "We have a summer place in West River NB and took Elmer in September. We hiked several trails in Fundy National Park and explored the tide line of the Bay of Fundy."

Elmer is a 2-3 year old beagle who was rescued in Virginia and adopted in New Hampshire this year 🏠
