To practice and promote responsible pet ownership through education and outreach in the community

Rockbridge Animal Alliance is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2014. Our goal is to work with the public and support other animal related organizations to improve the lives of Rockbridge area pets and homeless dogs and cats. We are established to aid in community outreach, humane e

ducation and community assistance programs, with an emphasis on spaying and neutering. We do not receive any taxpayer/government funding and rely on grants and donations to carry out our mission. We will not rehome dogs or cats but will help in the process. To make a tax-deductible donation via Paypal: [email protected]

In May, DDBBR was asked to assist law enforcement with a property in Rockbridge County. Fifteen dogs were living there in severe neglect and squalor. Many had rarely been touched or socialized and were semi-feral. All were medically neglected, with several suffering from serious conditions.

The owner agreed to surrender 11 of the dogs to DDBBR. Two were rehomed with family or friends, and two initially remained on the property.

We’re grateful that Animal Control and the Commonwealth’s Attorney chose to move forward with animal cruelty charges. A few days before the court date, the owner accepted a plea deal that we believe was the best outcome in this case. As part of the agreement, he surrendered the remaining two dogs and is no longer permitted to own companion animals. Animal Control is authorized to make unannounced visits to ensure compliance.

This outcome helps protect future animals and gives these dogs the chance they deserve. Thank you for making this work possible.

Winter has come early this year! ❄️

With more snow expected tomorrow (Friday), please keep pets indoors when possible, or make sure they have a warm, dry shelter if they’re outside.

If you go for a walk, remember to wipe paws after walks to remove ice and salt, and limit time outside!

Please bring your pets inside! It’s the law at these low temperatures. If you are cold, they are cold!
