“The welfare of people and their pets is deeply connected and in domestic violence situations, giving up a pet can be devastating.” -

Safe Havens for Pets offers a searchable, nationwide directory with more than 1,200 pet-friendly sheltering resources to those people facing domestic violence. To view their directory, go to safehavenforpets.org.

As National Pet Month comes to a close, we recognize the need for these resources and are grateful they exist for our clients and those in need. When survivors ask for help, believe them.

Survivors express how protecting their pets was just as important as protecting themselves.

Often abusers threaten pets and children as a way to control the narrative for victims.

We all know how important pets are for our mental and emotional safety.
