Help gather valuable data about birds in Kentucky with a great event this Friday through Monday hosted by our good friends at the Kentucky Ornithological Society. You can bird anywhere, but we're trying to get all 120 counties covered this year. Sign up for your counties and if you can, one or more of the unclaimed counties!

Because migrating birds come from many places and pass through the parks on their way to other sites, spring creates a constantly changing community of curious and beautiful species—and with it, amazing opportunities to observe them.

In this article, our Founder Dan Jones describes several serendipitous migratory moments he experienced while birding along the Echo Trim Trail in Beckley Creek Park. Read the article using the link in comments. The featured photo was taken by Dan during his recent outing!

Look! A cute baby rabbit!

Now that we have your attention…

We want to use this time to remind everyone to leave young wildlife undisturbed, even when they appear to be alone.

Wildlife parents often leave their nest or young in a location they consider safe while they forage or hunt nearby, including more developed areas. Young wildlife may appear to be left alone, but a parent is almost always nearby and will return as needed to feed and take care of them.

Instead, people can help baby wild animals thrive by:

• Observing them from a distance
• Securing trash cans and avoiding leaving food or other attractants outside
• Keeping children and pets away to prevent potential injury or leaving a scent trail that may attract predators
• Checking a property or site for the presence of young animals before mowing or commencing outdoor projects

We know, they’re cute. But it is important to remember that human intervention can cause unnecessary harm to young wildlife.
