Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Lexington KY Alumnae Chapter We are an organization of college-educated women committed to public service, dedicated to empowering our community and improving the lives of others.

We have been a positive force in the Central and Southeast Kentucky community since 1932. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, an organization of college-educated women, has a two-fold purpose. It is committed to the constructive development of its members, and its members are actively engaged in public service with a primary focus on the Black community. In 1932, under the national presidenc

y of Gladys B. Shepperd, eight wonderful Lexington, Kentucky, women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. chartered the first alumnae chapter in Kentucky, Chi Sigma. Due to nomenclature changes in the sorority, the chapter’s name later became Lexington (KY) Alumnae Chapter. The chapter currently has many active members with over 250 area-wide members. (Note: Since the chapter membership is not a static number, it might be best not to give an exact number.) Since the birth of this chapter, its members have been a viable force in the community. They have initiated and participated in numerous public service projects, such as food drives, the sorority's own Debutante Scholarship Ball, health initiatives, Delta Academy, social action activities, adopting Christmas families, and various health walks. ❤ Do black people and melanated folks need sunscreen??

YES! Sun exposure stimulates melanin production, which darkens existing spots, melasma, and post-acne marks. Sunscreen is crucial to making treatments for these conditions effective. Melanin cannot block all UV rays. Sunburns, premature aging, and DNA damage can occur on all skin tones. While skin cancer rates are lower in Black individuals, they are often diagnosed at later, more advanced stages. Melanoma can appear in areas shielded from the sun, such as the palms and soles of the feet, but UV radiation remains a primary risk factor for all skin types.
