Rockbridge County was impacted during Hunter's Raid and we are glad to learn of this resolution passed by the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors as historic tourism has always been important to the region

162 years ago, Union forces under Gen. David Hunter were on the move through Rockbridge County.

Recently, Rockbridge County passed a resolution to "support the continued preservation and interpretation of historically significant resources associated with the Shenandoah Valley and encourages consideration of Rockbridge County's relevant historic resources within the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District in a manner that promotes education, historical understanding, and inclusive interpretation of the region's history."

You can see the full resolution via the link in the comments.

Abbeville Institute associated scholar Phil Leigh passed away April 9, 2026. Many of you appreciated his work. Strike the Tent. Link⬇️

Several members of the Stonewall Brigade participated in this living history event at New Market last weekend which you will see on the cannon crew in this video. We look forward to hosting a similar learning program in less than two weeks at Lee-Jackson Memorial Park on May 30. Scouts return to Historic New Market Battlefield after 30 years

The weekend was about honoring the battle’s history while also welcoming a new group onto the grounds.
