And our service trip to NOLA with JLOFT is a wrap! With the service days done, we set out on our touring day…..with visits to the National WWII Museum, Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience, walking the waterfront on the Mississippi to the French Market, Jackson Square, and enjoying beignets at Bon’s Street Food. A fun ending to a week that saw this crew perform service in the bayou that surely expanded their personal zones of comfort as they helped restore eroded wetlands. Well done JLOFT Boston crew!!

Day 3 of our service trip in New Orleans with www.jloftBoston - Jewish Learning Opportunities for Teens!!! Service at the plant nursery for Common Ground Relief and then filling sandbags with repurposed glass with Glass Half Full to help rebuild eroded flood barriers……then New Orleans snowballs to help cool off in the heat, then bowling at the iconic Rock n Bowl.
Truly a day of working hard and playing hard!

Yes!!!! Another work hard play hard service trip to New Orleans with www.jloftboston.org is underway! Our partner on the ground in NOLA, Common Ground Relief does wetlands and environmental restoration work, and today had us knee deep in the bayou harvesting sea grass to be replanted in bayou areas that have been eroded from storms and shipping in the canals. The evening found us treated to a fabulous show at Charmaine Neville’s Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro……a main stop on any VVMA trip to NOLA. Ever the ambassador for musicians and New Orleans, Charmaine invited one of our travelers to sing with her and the band!……a fabulous way to top off a day on the bayou of Louisiana!
Tomorrow, we will plant the harvested sea grass in the ongoing work to restore wetland plant growth!
Excellent day all around!

Wow! Volunteer Ventures is grateful to have partnered with a thoughtful, generous and caring teen on a soup jar-making project for her mitzvah project in preparation for her Bat Mitzvah. Friends and family rolled up their sleeves and worked diligently and joyously as they made 200 jars that were donated to area food pantries. This act of kindness- tikkun olam or repairing the world in Hebrew - goes a long way towards helping people coping with food insecurity and sets a great example for young people to be actively involved in creating a more compassionate and caring world. Thank you for choosing this mitzvah project and to your family and friends for joining in!!

Our amazing friends at Toast Inc. did it again! They organized another wildly wonderful, productive, and fun soup jar making event at their headquarters! This fabulous crew made 240 soup jars in less than an hour to help feed our neighbors coping with food insecurity. The jars filled the shelves at Project Soup in Somerville, and at the Sudbury Community Food Pantry. The Toast crew surely walks the walk of giving back to the community, and are a great partner in food justice. Thank you, Toast! It’s always the right time to celebrate the amazing work of our volunteers at our annual MetroWest MLK Day of Service with JLOFT. Our 220+ super volunteers made 175 lasagnas, 243 banana breads, 288 soup jars, built 25 desks and shelves, and painted 90 Stars of Hope!! What a meaningful way to honor the legacy of MLK who said: “Everyone can be great because everyone can serve” Check out the full story of this wonderful day of service at www.jloftboston.org/mlk

Leaves, leaves, leaves and more!! This intrepid crew of teens and parents from braved the cold for an afternoon of service with Volunteer Ventures at the ’s Evelyn House Family Shelter in Stoughton. Teens and families from have done a variety of different service programs with the Evelyn House for many years, and no autumn season would be complete without the annual cleanup before the winter sets in. There was lots of raking, cleaning and storage of outdoor toys, refinishing a picnic table we built last year, and a major reorganization of storage rooms inside the house.!!! Well done crew!!!!…..and many thanks to Marcia and Brian from the Evelyn House whose partnership is always welcoming to our crews!

Temple Shir Tikvah of Wi******er - a long time partner with Volunteer Ventures - was abuzz with action last Sunday when 89 volunteers, younger and older, made 480 shelf-stable and nutritious soup jars to be distributed to clients through our local food pantries. The volunteers came together from a variety of local houses of faith, civic organizations, schools and neighborhood groups to help ease the challenge of food insecurity that impacts so many at this time. Thank you Shir Tikvah for being such a gracious host and a huge shout out to our volunteers who make helping others a priority in their lives!!

Kudos to our small and mighty crew and builders from for an excellent building day to wrap up our fall building season. This crew included a family who have come back to build with us three times! The builders, along with our fabulous volunteer coaches, put the finishing touches on several of our accessible picnic tables that friends from worked on earlier this season. These tables are now ready for shipping to various locations and to spread the word of welcoming accessible picnic table design so all can enjoy the action at a picnic table. Thank you for being such a terrific partner in service and volunteerism. We look forward to building with you again in the spring!
