Hi! My name is Kayla Daugherty. I’m a Kentucky native, and grew up in northern KY. I did my undergrad at Midway University, and graduated with honors in 2022 with a B.S. in biology and chemistry, math, and psychology minors, and began my chemical engineering education at UK that following summer.

During undergrad, I performed research on the development of modified cryogels for application as capture-and-release resins for cysteine, with the end goal of studying the effects of metal toxicity on cells. Currently I am in Dr. Knutson’s and Dr. Rankin’s lab, where I am researching modified silica nanoparticles and silica-coated membranes.

I have been riding horses since the 4th grade and had an athletic scholarship for it throughout undergrad. Pictures are my current horses: Quimby, Benlough, and the newest addition, Fluffy (yes that really is his name, no I did not name him).

I also have two chaotic cats, Bucky and Apollo, who like to play fetch and go on walks.

I enjoy spending time with my lovely fiancé Kyle watching action and horror movies and going on trips to Universal and the beach. I’m looking forward to our wedding on Friday the 13th in October, because what’s more fun than a spooky season wedding
