Steve Menefee has started reconstructing the log cabin playhouse. Waveland Preservation Association received a much-appreciated donation of logs. We will need plywood for the roof and floor, 2x4's for the window and door frame and a couple of bags of cement for the chinking. People are welcome to help with the reconstruction. The next workday will be posted here and the Waveland State Historic Site page.

Morris Peel constructed this play cabin in 1930. The little playhouse was donated in the 1970s to Waveland by his daughter Oneida Peel Cassity. Children loved playing in it, and it was often used as a backdrop for photos of children and families. A couple of years ago the cabin was in a state of disrepair and was dismantled. Now all that remains are the chimney and foundation.
The Waveland Preservation Association (a new Waveland’s friends group) is planning to rebuild the cabin. Steve Menefee, WPA treasurer, will be leading a group to start the reconstruction on Waveland’s opening day, April 1. Do you have special memories of this cabin? Come by and reminisce. Donations to Waveland Preservation Association’s first project are welcome.

Katy wanted to encourage the community to learn about Kentucky History and live a healthy lifestyle. For her Gold Award project, she designed and recruited a team of volunteers to renovate a broken bridge at a popular walking trail at Waveland State Historic Site. Congratulations, Katy!

Waveland Preservation Association seeks to work closely with the staff of Waveland State Historic Site to preserve the history and park in general through event programming and community stewardship.
