On the final day of February, the Lexington Chapter gathered for their Good Citizens and Chapter meeting at the Clocktower Clubhouse. This was our first in-person meeting since December, and the atmosphere was filled with lighthearted fun before we officially began. The event was attended by our Good Citizens participants and their families. This year’s chapter winner was Adelyn Kelly from Reading High School, with the decision coming down to a close call between her and Grace Luo Qu from Lexington High School. Both of these outstanding young women have promising futures ahead. After a brief intermission and a chance to mingle with our Good Citizen winners, Chapter Regent Avalon Borucki led the official chapter meeting.
Chapter Chaplain Michele Kane formally inducted three new members into our chapter: Peggy Kelly, Judith Kelly, and Cynthia Wellerbrady. We also had Prospective member, Sharon Cerci in attendance.
Chapter Vice Regent Chris Sheils offered congratulations to the three winners from our January Google Meet gathering. Following the business portion, we enjoyed an energetic round of trivia on Kahoot, focusing on Boston’s Freedom Trail. Our chapter Historian, Emily Boulnois, claimed first place, with the VIS Chair, Joyce Dvorak, and Prospective Member Kelly Floyd—who was not present to accept her prize—finishing as runners-up.
Service to America Chair Deborah Myers recognized members Peggy Borucki, Donna Hooper, and Mary Jones by presenting them with certificates for logging the first, second, and third highest Service to America hours, respectively. Thanks to the efforts of these dedicated members and everyone who contributed, the Lexington Chapter achieved 101% of its Service to America goal. In gratitude for her outstanding service—not only as Service to America Chair but in many other ways—Chapter Regent Avalon Borucki and Vice Regent Chris Sheils presented Deborah Myers with a Service of Appreciation Award.
It is always a pleasure to see our members at meetings, whether online or in person, but it was especially wonderful to have Marcia Steere and Wilda Ward join us. We eagerly anticipate celebrating Wilda’s 100th birthday at our May meeting.

Light the Arch! This Friday, November 28 at 7 pm.

We are so excited to announce that just over six months into our VO250 initiative, we will be lighting the arch on Friday, Nov. 28, revealing the total number of community service hours the Lexington community has committed to so far.

The VO250 Arch is a demonstration of Lexington’s commitment to community. For every 20,000 hours of community service logged by residents, another bulb in the Arch will be lit until we reach our goal of 250,000 combined hours by April 2026.

This Arch lighting represents a huge milestone, and we are excited to celebrate with all of the community members who helped get to this point. Please join us as we light the Arch, located on Massachusetts Avenue outside the Town Office Building, on Friday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m., after the Town tree lighting at Emery Park.

Keep up the good work, and visit lex250.org/vo250 to log your hours and find out how you can get involved with volunteering to support our community through this initiative.

Our friends, the Minute Men!

We are excited to share that Ken Burns’ documentary, “The American Revolution,” which features the Lexington Minute Men, is premiering Sunday, Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. on .

The Lexington Minute Men are driven by the purpose of commemorating the actions of the men and women of Lexington on April 19, 1775, where the first shots of the American Revolution were fired.

The Lexington Minute Men worked with the film crew in two sessions over the course of two years to demonstrate battle reenactments. Footage from those sessions will be used in the documentary.

We are honored to have Lexington, and the Lexington Minute Men, be a part of the documentary, and grateful to Ken Burns’ for his role in preserving the stories of our nation’s history.

Be sure to tune in and watch!

The Lexington Chapter commemorated its 130th anniversary today. Founded on October 19th, 1895, the Lexington Chapter of NSDAR appointed Mrs. Van Ness as its inaugural Regent, who held national number 4760. Since its inception, the organization has expanded significantly and now numbers over one million DAR members.
Today's celebration was presided over by Chapter Regent Avalon Borucki. Vice State Regent Jean Silvia, also an associate member, conveyed greetings on behalf of the State. District 1 Director Peggy Borucki, a chapter member, read the State Legislature Proclamation, extending best wishes for ongoing success over the next 130 years. Vice Regent Chris Sheils presented the town of Lexington’s Proclamation, expressing support and anticipation for the chapter’s future endeavors.
Former Chapter Chaplain Kathy Knowles, substituting for Michele Kane, officiated the induction of new member Ellen Avery. Emily Boulnois was recognized as this year’s Chapter Outstanding Junior. Joyce Dvorak received both her certificate for completing the New Horizon’s course, along with its cord, and an additional certificate in recognition of her Service to America.
A gavel crafted from an Elm tree from the Green was raised, and attendees enjoyed refreshments and a commemorative birthday cake. Additionally, Deb Rapp’s son Greg, proprietor of a local nursery, generously donated 15 mum plants in burgundy, yellow, and white, which were raffled among chapter members
