Project Honduran Child

Project Honduran Child Education is the passport out of poverty for thousands of impoverished children in Honduras.

A helping hand from a caring stranger can transform the lives of these children creating positive, lasting change that can pay dividends for generations. We believe that education, faith and love are what children need to break the cycle of poverty. A child who can read, write and who has a foundation in Christ has hope and a real chance to succeed. Our goal is to provide Honduran children an education so that they may become future leaders in their communities.

We were very sad to hear of the passing of our good friend Bobby Berkstresser. Since 2013, he has supported our Honduran mission through the sponsorship of several boys, three of who he was able to meet while on a mission trip with Friends of Barnabas. Yostin, and brothers Elan and Brian were fortunate enough to have Bobby as a guiding light, encouraging them to continue their education for the entire 7 years they were in our program. Bobby's loving spirit will be missed by so many.

Hi friends, family, and faithful sponsors. This is your long-awaited update on the current status of Project Honduran Child.

As you know, COVID has impacted the world in so many ways, including keeping your sponsored children out of the classroom for two years – and that doesn’t look like it will change any time soon. After two hurricanes devastated the country in 2019, the families are still finding themselves without work and the focus in these communities has become about simple survival. For two years, only one of us has been able to travel to Honduras to distribute backpacks and supplies and as classes continue to be disrupted, there is far less accountability. Because the students have not needed uniforms, we have found other ways to use the remaining funds which include school building repairs and fulfilling the basic needs of supplying underwear, crocs, rice, beans, and cornflour to our families. We were blessed to be able to help in these alternative ways.

These circumstances have led us to make the very difficult decision to close PHC after 12 successful years. To say we are saddened is an understatement, but the current challenges don’t allow us to continue our mission at this time. We are beyond grateful for the support you have provided on behalf of this program and the children we served from the beginning. Thanks to you, we made a lasting impact on the lives of our participants, their families, and the future of Honduras. Having an education is a mighty advantage and we look forward to seeing all of the benefits it will bring to this special country.

We humbly ask for your continued prayers for these children and their families as we continue to stay in touch with them through our amazing partners there. Jennifer and I thank you again for your love and support. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask publicly and we will respond. If you sponsor a child, you will be receiving a more detailed letter in the mail along with updated 2021 photos of your kids.

Many blessings to you all. We look forward to connecting with you in the future to see where God leads us to serve next!

Very successful quick trip to El Eden, Honduras last weekend. Two days of travel and three days of hard work with our local friends Emely and Karen. With your financial support, we were able to help 163 students continue their education. We were surprised at how many of the children are continuing school through workbooks and government television. It is still unknown when they will be going back to school in person but we are reaching out to the teachers to see how we can support them financially in the interim. All of our families work masks and the social distancing went very well! Proud of them all!

This photo was taken today. Our students in Honduras are turning in last years grades with hopes of being sponsored again this year. School is scheduled to start in-person on April 1st. Many of our kids have been gathering and learning through the Ministry of Educations government television since February 1st. They still need supplies to study which we hope to get to them by next weekend.

If you have not renewed your sponsorship this year, please do. Visit www.projecthonduranchild.com to renew through Paypal. Thank you!

After 15 years of mission work in Honduras, you can imagine how heartbroken our family is to see this devastation, first through COVID 19 and now being slammed with two hurricanes nine days apart. These are photos taken in the actual communities where many of our sponsored families live. Tens of thousands in Honduras are left homeless, seeking shelter in schools and churches due to flooding and mudslides. If you would like to join us in helping to supply basic needs: food, bedding, clothing, toiletries, etc., go to www.projecthonduranchild.com and donate to our Flood Relief Fund. The money will go directly to groups working in the areas we serve. Thank you and God bless you.

Absolutely horrible. Pan American Health Services is one of the organizations that serves the communities where we sponsor kids. Such devastation. It will take forever for our families to rebuild their homes. The infrastructure is completely broken down and will take months to rebuild. Please continue to pray for them. https://www.facebook.com/panamhealth/videos/1094238211009415

This is absolutely devastating. This is footage taken this morning of the Airport we fly into in San Pedro Sula. Needless to say we may not be traveling to Honduras in January as we typically do. We are, however, figuring out how we can directly help the communities we serve in other ways by partnering with other local NGO organizations to get them the supplies they need: Food, clothing, bedding, shoes, water, medical assistance, and hygiene kits. Stay tuned.

Please pray for Honduras. Not only have they been affected by Coronavirus but last week they were devastated by Hurricane ETA but now they are being slammed by Hurricane Iota. God help them stay safe and rebuild their lives after so much disaster.
