JAG KY Out-Of-School Participants attended Party on the Lawn, an annual back to school event hosted by Ashland Community & Technical College.

Everyone spent time hosting the JAG OOS table, answering questions and creating an activity with attendees. The positive message clothespin activity is a fun craft where people decorate wooden clothespins with bright paint and uplifting notes, then secretly clip them onto backpacks, clothing, or public spots to surprise others. It is a popular way to spread random acts of kindness in schools, teams, and local communities. Participants were encouraged to take a pre-decorated clothespin for themselves and to make one and pin it on a stranger to give them an uplifting, surprise message.

JAG OOS provided hygiene items as the entry fee donation. Items were donated to Pathfinder Pantry, the on-campus site for students and staff/faculty that are experiencing food insecurity.
Thank you to ACTC for providing community events that continue to bring UNITY to our commUNITY! 🤩

Chasity Curry, Medicaid Billing Coordinator

“Hi! My name is Chasity, and I live in London, Kentucky. I'm very excited to be joining the JAG KY team and starting this new chapter in my career!

Before joining JAG KY, I spent the past 12 years working as a Unit Clerk for Dialysis Clinic Inc. Prior to that, I worked in the Billing Office at St. Joseph Hospital. I'm grateful for the experience and relationships I've gained throughout my career, and I'm looking forward to bringing that experience with me into my new role at JAG KY.
When I'm not working, I love spending time with my family and playing with my dogs. I also enjoy taking care of my flowers and spending time outside. There's nothing better than a beautiful sunny day relaxing by the pool! And when I'm ready to slow down, I love settling in with a good book.

I'm excited for this new opportunity, getting to know my new coworkers, and being part of the JAG KY family!”

Welcome aboard, Chasity! 🚂

Morgan Johnson, Office Coordinator & Billing Specialist

“I graduated with my Associate’s in Arts from Bluegrass Community & Technical College. I’m currently enrolled at Campbellsville University working on my social work degree. I am passionate about helping and advocating for others. My favorite thing about JAG is being able to hear their stories, and seeing the students shine. The impact that the program has on the students is incredible. I am so grateful to be a part of such an amazing organization.”

JAG KY Out of School (OOS) participants Kalyn and Cynthia will start college at Ashland Community & Technical College (ACTC) on August 17th. As recent graduates of Johnson Central High School and Lawrence County High School, respectively, they have been working with JAG KY OOS Specialist Chrisha Spears on college admissions and enrollment. They have signed up with TRIO Student Support Services and have enrolled in the FYE 110 class that supports Bridge Builders, a program of The United Way of Northeast Kentucky. (UWNEK)

"Established in 2023, the idea of Bridge Builders came from Marshall Tyson, CEO of the UWNEK and it puts boots on the ground in our schools and communities through student volunteerism. This new initiative instills six (6) pillars of support in areas the council saw needing addressed. The pillars represent the Social Determinants of Health, and we want our communities to overcome barriers through our support. Bridge Builders Youth volunteer in these communities, bridge gaps they see through education, insight, and they want to UNITE their communities."
-UWNEK

FYE 110 will be taught by ACTC's Student Support Services Program Director, Megan Horne. Boyd and Greenup Counties’ JAG OOS Specialist, Chrisha Spears, will assist with planning community service programs and project based learning experiences that align with JAG KY’s pillars. Previous semester projects included writing greeting cards to accompany senior citizen food boxes from the food pantry and making blankets with Project Linus.

A special thank you to UWNEK for providing funding to JAG KY OOS in Boyd and Greenup Counties to continue to expand our program! 🙌
