There are over 300 kids coming Aug 1st … and we need you!

On Saturday, August 1st, JAKES Day in Georgetown is going to open the gate to the outdoors for hundreds of kids. It takes a whole outdoor community to make that happen.

Last year, the Double Eagle chapter of the NWTF handed out hundreds of backpacks and fishing poles and helped kids:
🎣 Catch their first fish
🎯 Try archery, shooting sports & even ax throwing
🦃 Compete in a youth turkey calling contest
🦺 Complete their hunter education range requirement for their orange card
🎁 Experience the outdoors in a hands-on way

This is one of those days that sticks with a kid for life…
and the heartbeat of the Double Eagle chapter of the NWTF
but it doesn’t happen without lots of volunteers.

👉 That’s where you come in.

We’re asking for anyone willing to help, to come to the planning meeting on JUNE 2 at 6:30 pm at the Scott County Extension office in Georgetown, KY. No experience needed, just a willingness to show up and be part of something good.

Come learn how you can help:
• Walk kids to the pond and get them fishing
• Help at activity stations
• Be a friendly face that makes a kid feel welcome

May 8th is the deadline to register for this event on May 29-30th at the Ohio Horse Park, just a few minutes from Ashland, KY. 4 classes, tshirt, and a goodie bag, and an annual NWTF membership for $35.

Bluegrass Ladies Sporting will be there with The Girlfriend's Guide to Shotgun and First Aid for the Outdoors. Come camp with us!

West Virginia Spring Becoming an Outdoor Woman at Twin Falls… what a weekend 💙

Bluegrass Ladies Sporting was honored to be invited to teach Wear the Wild. Once again, West Virginia BOW delivered something truly special.

If you like to fish or want to learn, they offered something for everyone including fly fishing, and even microfishing. But there was so much more ... indoor rock climbing, Jams with Pam, geology, tree stand demos, scouting, fi****ms, archery and more ... this weekend was packed with workshops that truly prepared you with skills you could take home and use this week!

A few favorite moments:
🪶 Seeing all of the beautiful feather jewelry creations in Wear the Wild.
🎣 Catching, cooking, and learning a new family secret recipe for sweet & salty fish breading in Dean's Pond to Plate workshop.
🎨 Watercolor painting trout and a rock-encrusted caddisfly larva with Macy as she brought conservation to life through art!
🌄 Hiking with park naturalist Bugs Stover, who is the most wonderful storyteller, and going back to hear his ghost stories around the fire.

Twin Falls Resort State Park was the most beautiful place to do all the outdoorsy things you love to do. The food was incredible. We saw more than just the twin falls. And the on-site nature center rocks!

It was a true joy to spend the weekend with such intelligent, talented, and capable women, each contributing something unique as we learned from one another and turned curiosity into confidence. So grateful to be part of it 💙
