In honor of the founding of AWS, women surgeons, surgeons-in-training, AWS partners, and allies continue to gather for a networking breakfast each year. With the generous support of our long-time partner, Stryker, we invite all interested individuals to join us and connect over a delicious meal.

AWS partners from the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS), Association of Out Surgeons and Allies (AOSA), Latino Surgical Society (LSS), Native American Surgical Society (NASS), Society of Asian Academic Surgeons (SAAS), and Society of Black Academic Surgeons (SBAS) are invited to share updates from their organizations. 🏆 Amalia Cochran, MD, FACS, FCCM – Dr. Olga Jonasson Distinguished Member Award - Recognizes someone who, through outstanding mentorship, enables and encourages women surgeons to realize their personal and professional goals. This award is in memory of Olga Jonasson, MD, who was the first female chair of an academic department of surgery and a leader in the American College of Surgeons.

🏆 Laura E. Witherspoon, MD, FACS - The Dr. Charles W. Putnam Distinguished Mentor Award - recognition of someone who has a sustained record of mentoring women surgeons and is a true agent of change to create an environment in which women surgeons can achieve their personal and professional goals.

Are you a US-based medical student who is interested in surgery and seeking guidance? Are you a surgeon, resident, or fellow who enjoys working with students and would like to serve as a mentor?

The AWS Surgical Mentorship Program is a 6-month structured program in which medical student mentees will be paired 1:1 with surgeon mentors. The program consists of monthly large-group mentoring and networking events, as well as regular mentee-mentor meetings. We look forward to receiving your applications!
