🏥 Thank you, Thomas Tafel, for joining us this week at the Rotary Club of Lexington!

Thomas joined us from Lexington Health, the organization formerly known as Lexington Medical Center. He walked us through its history and recent rebrand, and shared how it has grown while staying local, independent, and community-focused.

Some highlights:
🔹 More than 9,000 employees
🔹 11 development projects completed since 2020
🔹 A new facility coming onsite at Scout Motors
🔹 A strong role in training the next generation of health care professionals

🎓 Celebrating Student Leadership Month at the Rotary Club of Lexington!

This month, our club was proud to recognize three outstanding young leaders from our local schools:

🔹 Madison Martin – Gilbert High School
🔹 Teanna Mann – Lexington High School
🔹 Maddox Grieser – Lexington Technology Center

These students are already showing the kind of character, initiative, and commitment to others that make our community stronger. Leadership doesn’t wait for a title, and these three are proof of it.

🙌 Thank you, Jason Giulietti!

Yesterday, the Rotary Club of Lexington welcomed Jason Giulietti, President & CEO of the Central SC Alliance, as our guest speaker. He joined us as a guest of Rotarian Garrett Dragano.

Jason gave us a look at how economic development works here at home. The Central SC Alliance serves Columbia and 8 surrounding counties. Its work focuses on recruiting primary employers, the kinds of companies that bring new jobs and investment into a region. Their team does this through marketing, lead generation, and research. They compete with roughly 4,000 economic development organizations across the country, so that work matters.

Their target industries include:
⚙️ Machinery
🧪 Chemicals & Plastics
⚡ Energy Technology
🍽️ Food & Beverage
🚗 Automotive
🧬 Life Sciences

Jason was quick to give credit to his team and members for the Alliance's success. He closed with a challenge that fits right in with Rotary: Be a champion of your community! 💪

The Rotary Club of Lexington Reads Project has been one of the highlights of September — and it's all because of the generosity of our Rotarians and community!

Thanks to everyone who brought books this month, we're putting more resources into the hands of K–12 students in Lexington County School District One. That's the power of service above self in action. 💙

🏆 The 36th Annual Frank Mogan Cup!

At this week's meeting, Baxter presented the trophy to our own Rotarian Chad Whalls, whose team took home the Overall Championship at this year's Rotary Club of Lexington Golf Tournament!

HUGE congratulations to our Overall Champions, the team of Chris Deighton, Greg Payne, Grant Stoffle & Chad Whalls, led by Rotarian Chad Whalls! 🏆

Chad also picked up Closest to the Pin honors on Hole #4. Talk about a great day on the course! ⛳

Thank you again to every golfer, sponsor, and volunteer who made this year's tournament a success. The proceeds support community projects right here in Lexington and beyond. 🙌

🌿 Thank you, Anna Huckabee Smith!

This morning, the Rotary Club of Lexington welcomed Anna Huckabee Smith, Certified Wildlife Biologist with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, for an eye-opening look at the work happening across our state to protect South Carolina's natural treasures.

Anna covered a lot of ground, including:

🔹 Act 190 (Bill 5069), the SC Protected Lands & Conservation Coordination Act
🔹 SCDNR's Urban Outreach Initiative
🔹 Environmental and species success stories, like the delisting of the Wood Stork
🔹 Efforts to conserve biodiversity across South Carolina
🔹 New and ongoing outreach and education initiatives

It was inspiring to hear how much progress is being made and how SCDNR is working to connect more South Carolinians with the outdoors. Our state's wildlife is in good hands!

🏅 Celebrating Our Student Athletes of the Month!

The Rotary Club of Lexington is proud to recognize two outstanding young leaders from our community:

These student-athletes show what it means to give your best, both in competition and in the classroom. Their dedication, discipline, and character make them role models for their peers and a source of pride for their schools and families.

Literacy is the foundation for everything — education, employment, health, and opportunity. And right here in Lexington County, the Rotary Club of Lexington is doing something about it.

Our Rotary Club of Lexington Reads Project is collecting new or gently used books for K–12 students in Lexington County School District One all month long.

Know a Rotarian? Ask them to bring a book to their next meeting. Every page matters. 📖
