Behind a scholarship application is a person planning a future.

They may be imagining the work they want to do, the questions they want to answer, or the community they hope to serve. Financial support can help them continue pursuing that education.

That is the purpose of the Master-Pieced Scholars Fund: helping students move forward in their educational journey.

Before asking a young person what comes next, try asking how they are doing now.

School, friendships, family expectations, and decisions about the future can bring a lot to process. Young people deserve to be heard as whole people, including when they feel uncertain or need encouragement.

Ahead of World Mental Health Day on October 10, we are making space for that reminder: achievement matters, and so does the person working toward it.

Take time this week to check in with a young person in your life. Listen without rushing to the next question.

A student can name their dream career and still have no idea how to begin.

What does the work look like? Which skills should they practice? Who can they ask when the next step feels unclear?

Master-Pieced Youth Mentoring helps young people explore those questions through guidance, encouragement, and opportunities to develop life and career skills.

Today, October 3, marks the Louisville launch of Master-Pieced Youth Mentoring. As this chapter begins, we are celebrating the experience that different generations bring and the things we can learn from one another. A parent, grandparent, mentor, or neighbor may have helped you see a possibility you had not considered.

That kind of support is at the heart of Master-Pieced. We create pathways for youth success, while helping individuals and families connect with guidance, resources and opportunities.

This October, we are inviting you into the work. You might share your professional experience, mentor a young person, support the Scholars Fund, or help behind the scenes.

With our Louisville Youth Mentoring launch set for October 3, there is plenty to look forward to.
